Garden sounds great and having the woods at the rear will add character - but I bet it could do with some colour - like above wall planters or you could opt for a portion of the garden as a container garden, since you cannot dig down. This will also add a focal point for the garden and add some colour.

Hello, Jan L! I am quite familiar with the problem you have, I also have a little garden. Unfortunately, there is no easy solution to this type of thing. I needed to research on the topic for quite some time in order to find the most suitable things I could do for my situation. But there are still a thing or two that you can do to deceive the eye. You can still make your yard look larger that it originally is. You can play with the shape, implementing various plants. Or you can add depth with colourful greenery. There are also other helpful stuff you can add in your small yard in order for it to look bigger.
