after flowering.. the leaves are storing food in the bulb.. so as to grow roots in fall ... and bloom again next spring ...

leaving the leaves ... also lets you know.. where you can plant some annuals in that spot.. without digging up the darn bulbs ...

the heck with staking them.. cut them.. and take them in the house ... and enjoy them .. without having to sit on the sidewalk ... lol ...to die for ...

Thanks for the advice! I'll probably cut a few of the hyacinth to display inside. I do seem to have one other problem though, slugs! I picked four of them off this morning but some damage had already been done. I've read some articles on slug control, but I was wondering what has worked the best for y'all.

I use Natria for slug control. They are pellets that I just throw out around my gardens. It works well for me.

Propped up a couple of the hyacinth and they look much more presentable, cut a few and brought them in. I've been patrolling in the morning looking for slugs and removing them as I spot them. Seems to have helped a bit. I decided to try going without chemicals this time around and see how it goes, if it's needed I'll wait till next season to use them.

Justin, I see that you are in Washington state, zone 8. I rather doubt that your tulips and hyacinths will be reliable repeat bloomers. I might be very wrong on that, not being from that kind of zone 8 climate, but it's something to look in to.
