They are great. They eat tons of grasshoppers. We had them for almost 10 years, but had a couple dozen get wiped out in one very bad summer when it was hot and dry and the predators were starving....and eating lots of guineas.

The problem with guineas is they like to roam and don't respect fences. They'll fly right over your fence and onto your neighbor's property if you don't keep their wings clipped. Luckily, all our neighbors appreciated having the roaming flock of guineas come traveling across their property eating insects. Unfortunately, the predators listened to the guineas (they are very loud!) and tracked them down and killed them. Repeatedly. Off our property. After something got the last 4 in one day, I gave up on the idea of having them. I miss them, especially in the bad grasshopper summers, but don't miss the noise and don't miss having to go hunt them down and herd them down the road and back to our property again.

I saw guineas last week. I think it was at the Atwoods in Gainesville, TX, just across the river from us. I was tempted to buy some, for a moment, but decided against it. Predator pressure has been heavy lately, with something preying on cats and kittens in our neighborhood, so I didn't feel like it would be wise to start over with guineas again. A neighbor up the road a couple of miles from us has a flock of guineas and had a peacock, which disappeared last summer, but he is at the civilized end of our road which is more like a little housing subdivision whereas we are at the end of the road where civilization kind of peters out. I'm going to watch and see how his make it through the summer.
