My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.
I wish I knew...I think I have a mac curse (like a mac cheeseburger, only worse)...I tried a couple of cuttings, but they never rooted and eventually died...I figured maybe cuttings were difficult or sensitive, so I tried a series of sturdy rooted plants from three different sources...every one of the plants did the same thing: they sat perfectly still for months--the leaves stayed green and firm, but there was no growth at all...then, one by one, the leaves (still green and firm) dropped off until the there was nothing but bare stem...then the stem shriveled up and died...I'm thinking maybe a humidity issue? Although even spending the summer out on my warm (and humid) deck didn't seem to help...So I'm back to thinking it's a curse...if you have any other explanation I'd be happy to hear it...meanwhile, I just enjoy looking at pictures of other people's macs...so keep them coming :-)
Don't feel bad, Shelly. We all have a few species that are seemingly easy but we cannot grow no matter how hard we try. Not a Hoya, but I am world renouned for killing the houseplant any idiot can grow, the common Pathos. Here in the Midwest...well, for me anyway...macgillivrayii has a rather short growing season. It gets started late and stops growing in early fall. And after all these years, I have yet to get it to bloom.
Thank you tibean, gg and Denise. I bought 10 hoya plants at a plant show in Feb. 21st. Nine of them are mac's (that is what the owner say's to me). She said i bought all of what she had there. I simply pick hoya's that has big flower in her album. Nesbit river and preatorie had umbrell, of course preatorie drop all hers one by one and nesbit river came through for me.
Try sniffing the flower after dark...I've read that they're supposed to be very fragrant...
Based on GG's comments maybe I WILL try another mac...but not until I try some of her anti-curse tactics...I think orchid blood might be hard to come by, but I could totally try the 100 moth cure...
My mac (Pandanus Creek) is growing like a weed and hopefully, some day, it will bloom. I've only had it since Oct (I think), so it will be awhile, I think. Your blooms are beautiful!
