I was hoping you'd reply Patty! Kinda weird being on the other side ... sseing folks from other states get these big beautiful trees from Harris and others for those varieties but we've got none here in CA. 4W is definitely a no on prop for the KinnowLS.

What happened with the Deko commerce that directed them to start retailing grafted trees? I thought they were going the contract route of keeping retail trees off the market and only going with $4/lb fruit? That's why everyone was playing the lotto with the seeds from fruit.

Well, I have some updated news for you, cebury :-) Here is a copy of the email I received from the CCPP, in response to my request about whether the CCPP had every acquired Shiranui budwood:

The
CCPP is currently processing under quarantine the Shiranui variety
introduced from China. The accession entered the last stage of disease
testing in December 2014.

If
all tests are negative the CCPP will request the release of the variety
form State and Federal Quarantine around July-Aug 2015.

After
the quarantine release a limited amount of budwood (~12 buds per order)
will be available to nurseries and others under " Early Release Budwood
" in the CCPP online budwood order system (http://www.ccpp.ucr.edu/budwood/budwood.php ) .

Anyone can get a CCPP budwood order account by sending an email at the ccpp@ucr.edu. More info at http://www.ccpp.ucr.edu/budwood/budwood.php .

As
time passes and we are approaching summer of 2015 we will know more
specifically when we will have the budwood source trees available for
budwood distribution. The best estimate right now for limited amount of
budwood is Oct-Nov, 2015. It all depends on testing results and growth
of budwood trees sources. Feel free to contact me again in a few months
for an update.

Please,
inform the people interested on this variety to be patient. This
process of citrus variety introduction has been in place for decades for
the protection of California citrus from deadly and catastrophic
diseases such as HLB (http://www.californiacitrusthreat.com/ ) .

People
that bypass the process and propagate or introduce or move citrus
plants around California put all of our trees at risk not only for
HLB/Greening but many other diseases and pests (http://www.saveourcitrus.org/ ) .

without the use of clean materials (seeds or plant parts) could have

And, no, my seedling did not survive. My wonderful and well-meaning husband moved it into my greenhouse in the summer. Where it gets to be about 180 degrees since I don't have screen up. Needless to say, it fried in one day. I was rather horrified, and more than upset with him. But then, he has to put up with me using our lovely outdoor patio table as a little growing grounds, which rather irks him :-) And, there is no plans for the patented Dekopon to ever be sold to retail growers for hobbyist purchase that I am aware of. So, this budwood source is the best we're going to get. We'll have to bud up our own trees for now, until some enterprising grower decides to propagate this cultivar in California, when the budwood is released.

Xie Shan has been available since 2014 in California, Kinnow Ls too. Not sure why patty said no.

Hello, just wanted to bump this thread and see if anyone has found a source for Xie Shan trees in CA. The budwood for Shiranui was just released last year from UCR so it will probably be a couple years before we see anything from the nurseries.
