Oh...Jessiann, they are lovely blooms, but tell me is the plant healthy?

I I bought them from a lady that was digging them up from her yard. So I assume they could have anything. The bulbs are firm. No red spots in the bulbs or leaves. I noticed the blotches on the scape in the picture but it don't look like that up close. I'm gonna spray it with pesticide/fungicide and keep it away from my other bulbs until I'm sure it don't have MV.

Louana, Shoot us a picture of the leaves, I know from time to time that if you handle the scapes too much that dusty coating (which some scapes have more of than others) can rub off unevenly making it look strange.

You could certainly try to self at least one flower and I think I'd try papilio if you have any pollen. Try anything that moves you, you never know what might give you a few seeds at the least!

Here you go Donna, what do you think? The scapes did have a lot of powder on them. We rode 2 hours with it on the floor between my feet. My pant legs were rubbing on the scapes. I hope that's all it is but I'm not that lucky.

I got 4 scapes. 2 of them with 2 flowers each and 2 with 3 flowers each. That gives 10 tries at a cross. I'm definitely gonna try papilio. I'm not sure what else feel free to send more suggestions my way.

You were really lucky to find her digging them up. Most people are really happy to share if they have a bed full of them. I find my affected bulbs look great in the cooler part of the year, but the heat makes them show their true condition. Just be careful!! SCORE!!

Kristi I noticed that to. I'm gonna keep this one by itself until it gets hot enough to tell. Last summer I had to destroy about 12 or so do to MV. It made me sick I lost some of my favorites. I never want to do that again. I still haven't replaced them all.

Well, so far the leaves look OK. Keeping them quarantined and subjecting them to the summer sun should tell but for now they look OK. I have just 2 pots of virused bulbs left, I left the others outside and they finally died, and right now, both pots growing by themselves on the fireplace floor look just fine, but I know they aren't.

I hope you removed the pollen from those flowers before the anthers open as you do run the risk when removing them as shown in your pictures above of selfing them, believe me, I know how easy it is to make a mistake so now I always remove the anthers before they are open which sometimes means I have to carefully force the flower open to get at them, they will open in a dish in a day or so, better safe than to go through all that work and 4 years later find you just have a self!

I had 4 seedlings from about 6 years ago of Naranja x Exotic Star and two years ago when the first and only one to date to bloom opened, it looked like a self to me and I am still waiting rather impatiently to at least see another of the 4 bulbs bloom before I will determine if it is indeed just a self, anyway it is a pretty orange flower (the same one blooms every year) so I will keep it but it's so easy to screw up☺☺! !

Thanks for that info Donna I'm bad about getting the pollen off early. I'm sure i have a lot of selfs and don't know about yet. Three of the flowers were open when I got it, so I guess I'll just self those and try to cross the other 7 and see what happens. If the 3 selfs take I'll have seeds to share.
