Hello,

I received a needle palm a few weeks ago. It has been inside since until yesterday. In order to prevent the palm from being scorched by the sun, I put the needle palm in a partial sun location. I woke up this morning to find that the second to lowest frond of the palm turned almost entirely brown. I don't see any brown tips on this frond. I am in zone 4b and last nights temperature was only down to about 40 degrees F.

I am pretty positive that this brown spot was not brought upon by cold damage, under watering, nor over watering. It is possible the brown spot was there before yesterday and I didn't even realize it. I don't think this is the fronds natural way of dying mostly because I don't recall seeing it turning yellow then brown. Also, the oldest frond is doing quite well still with no damage or signs of dying. The only explanation I could think of as to why this one frond turned brown so sudden is sun damage but that still seems a little unlikely in my opinion. The brown is even running down a little bit of the stem/branch towards the trunk.
