Going strictly by style, this is one of those deep seat sofas with a low back. They are very uncomfortable to sit on. There is no support for your back because you can't scoot back far enough without your feet coming off the floor.

On the other hand they're great if you want to lay down.

Most importantly, it will cost at least $1,000 - $3,000 by the time you buy fabric and pay an upholsterer + don't forget the price seller is asking. That's not a steal. Go to a furniture store and start looking at new sofas for far less.

looks worn, old and faded. I'd pass. Who knows what has happened on that couch...

Wow. That is the ugliest couch I've ever seen in my life. There is no way in the world I would put old, soft furnishings from an unknown source in my house. Even if you have a cool vision of a pink couch in your head ... say you're going for some kind of funky art decco art studio vibe or something ... you need to buy new. Wow.

Buying a used couch is like buying a used mattress. The difference is that you can assume the mattress was covered by a sheet - the couch was not. You're buying dust mites, possible pet dander, and human skin that has flaked off. Who knows what happened in that couch. I couldn't buy it.

To each his own. When buying on craigslist, get the story. Did the couch sit hardly used in the front room of grandma's house and now the estate is selling? Maybe a good deal. There are scammers out there but most are normal people selling normal stuff.
Rarely is reupholstering less than buying new...down-filled and hardwood frame is about the only reason to do it.
If you are replacing in a year, get something small that you can resell. Pink is bad. Big is bad.
Always ask where and when they bought it, what brand, what damage it has, if any, AND why they are selling. And remember, the primary reason to sell is that they don't want it so offer what you think is market price, not what they think if is worth. I would't pay over $100 for that particular couch...low demand and they would only get $100 tax write off for donating it and they'd have to deal with getting it there.

I purchased a used Flex Steel couch from Craigslist for my craft room and am very happy. The quality of the couch is amazing. The cushion covers are removable so I washed them and plan to recover the whole piece eventually. The couch you're considering is huge, that would be my first concern. Concerning the cost, offer a very low price but only if it's well made and you KNOW it will fit into your house perfectly and if you're in love with the piece after you look at it. Not many people are looking for a large pink couch so again, come in at a very low offer if you want it. I'd offer $125 as it's going to take a lot just to get it home. I'm guessing they haven't had any offers and would be more trouble for them to haul it away than to take a low offer. Good luck. :)

$435 is way too much. They can't give that couch to charity, they won't take it. I bought a vintage sofa that looks similar. Of course I had it reupholstered. I paid $90 for mine, and recovered it for $5500. It fits perfect in my post war (WWII) home.

There are a lot of rude comments on here, mostly made after the poster already said she wasn't going to buy it. This type of input seems more and more common on Houzz unfortunately, and it really detracts from the discussion IMO.

That said, I wouldn't have bought the couch either. Too expensive to redo. Instead, get your pink fix with pillows and possibly an inexpensive side chair- or even a funky vintage coffee table you could repaint.

OMG I love this couch. It is so sleek you could almost do anything but I might go for armless, with shiny stainless legs and frame, square seats and backs, usually tuffted. You could either go with leather or or a pattern or something like cushy velour, the opposite of leather. If I can find a picture I will try to send it. You will do fine, you picked that couch didn't you? :)

I bought two pink Thayer Coggin 1980s sofas for $125 . Don't forget to add on for moving and cleaning .
$435 is high for this one.

That seems wayyyy too much for such a large piece.
Craig's list has tons of sectionals advertised for free!
People just want them hauled away, as they are usually not in good enough condition to donate to Salvation Army etc.
Is your space large enough to handle such a huge sectional?
Consider scale, first and foremost. Even if the price is right, it will not be a wise choice and you will regret it once you get it home and it is way out of proportion.

Sorry, didn't read the above comment that you decided not to buy it. Wise decision! Great your friend is giving you her used Rest Hardware sofa. Caution, I would not invest in reupholstering though, as their furniture is not the greatest quality( made in China) and will not last for long. Looks trendy and pretty but is not great quality. It's super nice as a hand me down though.

This sounds horrible, but a LOT of people have bedbugs and don't know it.
If you do buy it, be VERY sure how to clean and/or disinfect it

First, find out if this couch has been subjected to the following: smokers, pets and kids--all three can ruin furniture. Some smells and spills never come out--and good luck if it's riddled with fleas.

Second, what's under those cushions? Will you sink like a stone sitting down because the springs are totally worn? Are those cheap cushions which will fold up around you when you sit on them, or worse, are already falling apart inside?

Third, it's always best to purchase things like this in person so you can sit, smell, test it out for yourself. Proceed with a lot of caution!

It huge do you have a huge room? I don't like used furn. But it's your house. I wouldn't pay more than a $100. For it.

As far as Craigslist goes, I saw recently that some police stations are allowing you to meet your Craigslist vendor at the station. It's good to be safe, but can't be done with very large pieces. But a great idea if it can be arranged. And safe!!

You'll tell a lot once you see it in the home and especially pay attention the the rest of their home. Are things clean and well cared for? Do pets rule? Don't go alone and if you're a woman go with a guy to check it out—preferably a large guy. I think the pink could be fun. You can cover the faded spots with throws or pillows. I wouldn't pay more than three. They are probably just hoping someone takes it away.

I agree. Charities are getting so picky about what they will take. They walked into the new home I purchased furnished and said they wouldn't take anything! I burst into tears and they took it. I gave them $100 I was so relieved and it was decent furniture! I did buy a Kreiss sectional a few years ago on Craigslist for $450. After having all the cushion covers dry cleaned and then a year or two later replacing 6 down cushions I could have had a pretty nice couch for the amount I spent trying to infuse life into that monstrosity. It was the Kreiss label that sucked me in!

I considered buying a sofa off craigslist. Turns out the frame was broken, but repairable. I wanted it for the style, size and shape, but could not afford the work of repair and reupholtery requied at that time. Always regert not accepting it after the seller offered it to me free of charge because he was giving up his storage unit and wanted it moved. I too was concerned about bedbugs. I found out a friend brought new furniture and still got them.

It really depends on the maker. Honestly, I would say she is asking to much given the condition that it's in.

Lucimari, I would add round, low club chairs in a colorful (not print) nubby fabric to add texture and color but keep it modern. Throw pillow to co-ordinate, too. Also, change out the lamp for something larger and more modern.

I was thinking.....I have cats and a way to see if a kitten, or cat, has peed on something is to use a black light. It also shows every thing that has ever been spilled on carpet even if all of the mess is cleaned up! I got the little black light flashlight at the local farm and yard store for under $20. It might be helpful for checking out used furniture. You have to use it in the dark though.

Despite the OP deciding, a few days ago, not to buy, there was still some great advice being given by others. Sure, the OP won't need it, but the advice might help another reader -- now or in the future.

Really they are lunatics to even post a picture to sell it. The only spot fit for it is a landfill or dumpster or a bon fire....that purchase would be like taking $435 in the bathroom using it like toilet paper and flushing it away...they have no shame. Besides pets bugs dead skin what about bodily fluids. whose what happened repeatedly on that piece

infact at work fabric recliners are never kept or passed to another residents or other patients because infection control cellulitis bodily fluids they are Always thrown out

There is not a thing on earth, that will make that sectional look good. Shame on the person who allowed this to be made! Now our landfills will b consumed with this beast.
