you research how long it takes for the seed to mature ... and stop pinching back that far prior to the end of the season ...


e.g. .. in MI ... if it takes 60 days for seed to ripen ... i would stop pinching back flowers in late august.. so the seed would mature by late oct ...

or.. if you have two plants.. just let one go its own way ...

of course.. if you have some foo foo variety ... do begin.. by making sure its not sterile ...

BTW .. i am being lazy ... i thought it was a perennial ... as i call it.. the perennial bachelor button .... which would probably be easier to divide ... maybe i will become more curious later in the day ...

either way;.. finding the full proper latin name [in case there is a second name] .. is best to start your research ...
