How about the genus Asplenium?? 700 species and probably as many hybrids to choose from.lol Most require shade and dry feet though almost all like a lot of water and humidity. They range from tropical to temperate so are cold tolerant by that choice .

Since you have no drainage mabe some type of water plant would be a better choice ??. Most of them require full sun but will tolerate a lot of shade gary

How big are the containers? What time of the day is it the sunniest on your deck? Can you put a gallon pot with drainage in the containers? Another genus to check out are the Japanese Painted ferns. Easy to grow, with lots of different colors and shapes. One big one in a pot is impressive. They are readily available and reasonably priced - so if they are not happy in the pots - you can move them and try others. I have found beauties in both nurseries and big box stores. Just don't let them sit in water - underwater rather than over water. Many ferns thrive in dry shade. Check the website of the Hardy Fern Society for more growing details and ideas for your pots.
