Beyond Help???

My gardener, last fall, pruned my "hot lips" salvia down to about three inches, not knowing what he was doing. As of this date, there is no growth showing on this butchered plant. I've loved having it in my garden, will it come back or is it a goner?

    Two years ago I thought mine was a goner, but it came back very late in the spring. I'd give it more time.
