Was the compost enclosed in something? Anaerobically means without air.

Compost tea would be my solution.

you need to get the micro-heard running again.

You can buy some mycorrhizae, and try adding some molasses, and fish, or crab fertilizer.

soil is fungi, bacteria, nematodes, protozoa, worms etc...

you cant just add 1 thing, you just have to feed it and wait for the good guys to outcompete the bad guys.

high quality compost tea is your best bet

An anaerobic compost can be every bit as good as the more usual aerified version. It is the intermediate stages of the anaerobic process-where things like hydrogen sulfide (stinky) and so on are being generated, that can harm plants. That said, most of the organisms necessary for either type of decomposition are already present-no need to purchase expensive "snake oil". If organic matter needed human beings to be adding lots of this or that to the mix in order for said decomposition to proceed, we'd be up to our eyeballs and beyond in formerly-living items. We're not, and it's simply not true that one must add all these items to get what is, after all, a ubiquitous process to proceed. I'd just re-stack, making sure that this time, I haven't let things get anaerobic, and in time, the material should be fine. Might be worth your while to add some new ingredients too, to provide food for the microorganisms. But I'm not talking about specialty preparations-just the usual waste items that would be composted anyway.
