Good thinking about the stains,Kelley! I didn't think of that. The Trellis is taupe and off white. Trim in house is off white too.

Hi bec933, Kelley does bring up a good point about stains in regards to choosing a pattern. Your choice for a Sunbrella fabric will also help greatly with minimizing the issues with stains.

Before deciding, I would also consider a couple other things. First, how "committed" are you to the trellis pattern? In other words, do you see yourself liking it for a long time? Do you have a tendency to change your mind on styles, colors, patterns you like? Do you like having more flexibility with decorating?

With your new banquette area, I assume the actual banquette seat is your largest investment piece. So perhaps if you see yourself down the road wanting a little more flexibility with decorating (and not feeling locked in to decorating around the trellis pattern for as long as you plan to keep this piece), then perhaps choose the solid color. This way, you will have a little more freedom with mixing in more variety of patterns with throw pillows, rugs, drapery and even patterns on the side chairs you bring in. IMO, I think staying more neutral with your larger investment pieces in any given space is a good way to go....giving that piece more "staying power" as your tastes evolve and/or change too.

Avery- you also bring up a good point! The solid taupe option would be more versatile. It is a big investment that I'm hoping to last for several years. With that in mind, perhaps keeping the large piece a solid neutral would be best. I could always upholster some throw pillows in the trellis pattern. Lots to think about. Thanks for your input!

I looked at the Ballard sunbrella fabrics and think that the Como Ikat Dijon or Quatrefoil Trellis Sand are also good options. I’d suggest going with the gray table.

Ballard allows you to purchase your own material and send to them to upholster the items - called COM (Customer’s Own Material) The downside is the cost of the fabric isn’t included in the cost of the seating because you are buying it separately. But the upside is, you can choose almost any fabric in the world to get exactly what you want…

It certainly opens up a whole lot of other outdoor fabric options!

The charming trellis pattern has movement and casual elegance and would look great against the matching walls and trim. A combination of the pattern and the solid fabric for throw cushions with off white piping would be lovely. The table (in the lighter shade) is a great choice to complete the look. Splashes of red and lime green - a pretty bowl of fruit on the table, a rug, a picture elsewhere in the room might be a consideration.

How tall is the seating? It looks like it will block part of the windows? Personally, Ilike the trellis. So many people are afraid of pattern, they always seem to suggest solid neutrals. I am a big fan of color and pattern, but that is my personal taste--I'm an Aries!
