I agree with Wayne.....sunburn. I hope that no one tries to tell you that water on the leaves burned your plants.

Thanks for the replies. Should they recover OK from the sunburn? With the exception of the cauliflower, they seem to still be standing strong with the exception of a couple that were tiny to start with.

Yes, they should recover. The older leaves will not look so good though.

if i put the starters next to the windows where they got plenty of sunlight everyday, do I need to harden them before transplant?

Yes. They need to get used to wind, rain, sun and different temperatures.
