Question on Geranium Cuttings and bringing them outside

I brought in some geraniums before the first frost and in February, I made some cuttings and planted them in growing medium. The cuttings took off and are doing great. Last year, I took them outside and the leaves turned red /pink. I was told they had a form of sunburn. The reason - I did not acclimate the plants to the outside. So, how do I prevent the new cuttings from getting a form of sunburn? The plants are like 3 -4 inches tall and have lots of leaves on them.... a few of them are even blooming...... Thanks -
