Where, roughly, are you? Are you staying in pretty much the same place? Are you willing to spray fungicides?

Roses vary a lot in what they consider good care or life-threatening abuse. For many years, they were cheap enough that it didn't matter that they only lasted a year or two. Now that they cost real money, it has changed how people buy roses, but hasn't really changed how they are sold.

If you are in western New York, go to a real nursery and look at their potted mini roses. They are sold as temporary decoration, so tend to be fairly cheap. They also tend to be decently hardy and disease resistant, so long as you don't push their limits too hard. They are usually sold with several rooted cuttings in the pot, and can be separated.

Depending on exactly when you end up moving, there could be issues wintering over roses. Be prepared to lose them.

Thanks, I'm in Clarkstown, just outside the city, in the burbs. I'm only moving a mile away, the house is still in building stage, so everything climate wise, will stay the exact same. I also wanted to try and find out how best to prepare the soil, maybe fertilize it, for next spring, when I do plant roses.
