Hydrangea branch rooted?

Hi there. I was out in the garden cleaning up and had noticed that my ES hydrangea I planted last summer was sprouting leaves a few inches above the soil line (it had basically died back to the ground like I expected it would) and so I was cleaning up around the hydrangea and I went to pick up what I assumed was a branch that had broken off, only to find it was rooted and had a leaf sprouting..

Is this possible or is it something else entirely? I could be mistaken. This is an old garden bed but I cleared everything out except for two hostas when I planted the hydrangea.

I dug it up and brought it inside and put it under my grow lights. I tried to get a photo of the leaf but it's rather blurry, my cellphone doesn't take the greatest pictures.
