Ship lap? Is there a type?

I have used ship lap in my bathroom done horizontally, and am not sure if it was the painter or the type of shiplap that was used, but it doesn't look as "crisp" as this? I would love to try it again in the mudroom, but am worried. I guess is could be the painter? Thanks in advance, your work is beautiful.
