    Susan,

Sorry I messed up but it seems as though it was a happy surprise since you lost most of your plants. You can now be on your way to building your collection back up!

Here's the FB site for vintage violets https://www.facebook.com/groups/VintageVioletFriends/

    Hi, Vikki

Thanks. When I used Google search, I could not find it.

I seem to have trouble getting into Groups.

Linda, no problem. It was great to receive the box. I didn't realized how much I was going to miss the swaps. Hopefully my water issues are cleared and all will be well with the new plants.

If anyone is interested in joining the Vintage Violet group on Facebook, just ask to join. I am the Administrator, and I have to approve all new members because it is a "secret" group by Facebook standards. It really is for those people who grow and collect vintage, and are experienced growers rather than beginners who are seeking guidance and pointers.

Hi, Sue, I would love to join. Vikki sent the link above, but when I tried to enter it on a Google Search, I could not find it. Would you send me an invitation?

I will send you a PM. thanks

    Joanne

Would you send me a PM? I will put my FB name on a PM.

There are a lot of people on FB with my same name. It might be easier to find and

contact me through the AV RR FB group that Linda set up for us. Are you a member of that?

I also tried to send you a PM with my email address, which is another way to contact me.

I just don't want to put my name on a public forum.

    Thanks,

    Joanne

    RE: Vintage Violet FB page

Linda, Melody and Brunilda - I had to send you friend requests on FB in order to invite you to the group.

Joanne, I haven't gotten any PM from you yet.

Eileen - I am trying to add you, but for some reason your name won't come up even though we are already friends. I will keep trying to figure that one out. Hopefully you will get a request soon.

I will have to ask you to send me an invite. My attempts didn't pan out. Terri

Terri, I sent you a friend request. As soon as you accept, I will add you to the group.

    Thanks!

    Sue C Irish

I was not able to send you a PM. I had to send it through G mail. Your page was not set up for a message. Are you on Linda's AVRR group? I could send you a message through that.

    Thanks,

    Joanne

    Linda,

Yes, it is a big responsibility to host and manage a RR, especially with two boxes going out at the same time. There is probably a lot of behind the scenes messaging going on as well that the rest of us don't see.

Joanne, Yes I am in the AV RR group.

Received the box today!. Total 30 varieties, 5 were mush, removed those. I kept:

    Foxwood trail

    Skagit cascade trail

    senks blue cascade

    mermaid kiss

    acas tornado.

Replaced with another 5. Box will be shipped out to Pat tomorrow, the tracking # is 9405509699938437972228. Thanks Linda.

I do agree, RR's do take a lot of work. Organizing, messaging, compiling info- and then making the boxes. Plus, worrying about 'what if's' LOL! I try so hard to replace a ton of what dies in the box, without even saying anything. Just so the next person has a nice box. And when the box comes back- it's nice to be able to just do nothing with it, keep it and take your time planting the stuff. :) Sometimes people forget we have a life- and violets just are a FUN hobby.

Thanks Linda for all the work you do! I appreciate you! ;)

I think organizing may be the most difficult part. I try to plan geographically so the box won't be making long trips between. But then, someone is going on vacation, or a family reunion or something. So I have to arrange, re-arrange and re-arrange again. Sometimes, I think some people must think I am terribly disorganized but I always get requests for a different spot once I post the mailing order. There is a LOT of behind-the-scenes messaging that goes on!
I also have trouble sometimes getting addresses from those who want to participate. I guess I understand a bit of reluctance to give your address to a stranger but I need it to mail you violets! Also, your address is public information-internet, phone book, etc.

But, that said, this is a great group to work with so it's all good! You all make it so much fun!

Linda what did you get in the box ?

    last modified: 11 years ago

box came today 25 varieties and 1 steptocarpella .how do you start a streptocarpella ? I kept Mac"s just jeff--aca"s tornado--persian lace--optimara jamaica--cajuns queen lace that one is iffy 6 bags were mush replaced them and what I kept. Linda their is a note in the box for you. Will mail box in the morning and get tracking # And added a few other things.tracking # 9114 9999 4423 8267 2723 67 thanks Linda.

If the streptocarpella is a cutting, just place it in soil. Treat it like a sucker from a violet. It will multiply without doing anything. Likes the same soil, temps, light as a violet. They bloom continually!

I will try to post tomorrow what I got. My daughter has been sick (nothing serious) and I have been trying to take care of two households. And I'm not as young as I used to be. I will say that I got almost 40 different varieties :) This has been so much fun!

Whatever happened to the Vintage Group?

Maybe the moderator f the Vintage Group would send us individual invitations by PM to our Houzz home pages when she has time? It has been a little nuts here lately, violet-wise and otherwise, so I plum forgot about it!

Interesting how the RR box contents grow along the way, isn't it!?

Hi, Linda aand Joanne. Sorry for the delay, but i am on vacation in Key West this week. I have added several people from this group already to the vintage Violet page. I have to have you as a friend before I can invite you and i dId send both of you fb friend requests and a message that may have gone to your "other" message inbox. I will try again wwith the friend requests. Once you are in you can unfriend me if yout want.

Oh, I did see an invitation from a Sue recently, was that you, and Irish is not your true name? I saw this auction for leaves of Ann, bidding is at $6.45, which is not bad. terryg413 (420 ) Ends in 23 hours. It is a hard one to grow and maintain.

Linda I have not found that one anywhere I lost it and about 100 more when I let a woman and her kids move in with me till they got on there feet . I had to give up my plant room and put my violets in the living room and it gets to 90 in their in the summer, so they got cooked. That was one of my favorite plants. Pat

    Pat,
It always seems as though it is our favorites that die. I have a list of friends who want plants and I put you on there so I wouldn't forget.
