jason, this would be a good time to test the survival ability of earthworms in chemicals. Maybe they'll only become sterile......

I guess it sort of depends what is in miracle grow. I would imagine that pesticides/herbicides would be worse for worms than just a straight fertilizer. At any rate, you did the right thin encouraging them to move. Maybe add some food to the top bin as well to get them to move on up?

IM thinking that if the peat was enriched with MG there wouldnt be that much in it. So if a person soaks the peat in water and then squeezed it out like a damp sponge there might not be any harmful MG left, just a thought. Still waiting for the answer.

The peat enritched with miracle grow has litte time release capsules in it so a simple rinse will not suffice, if you wanna see somthing kinda neat get it supper dry and light it on fire as it burns the litte fertilizer capsules pop like little fireworks, a few years back i poked an incense stik into a house plant and it lit up

so the worms have been moved from their miracle grow home. I took as many out as was reasonable and put them in peat that didnt have any miracle grow in it. they are surviving nicely.

I took the rest with the mg peat moss and dumped them in my larger compost bin.

when they were in the MG peat, they didnt seem to be too upset about it.

i'm used to reading the labels on my food...need to add growing media to that list too
