Darn, it looks like Fiesta Bulbs only does wholesale to businesses.

If you don't get an offer of an offset of Mega Star, you could always ask if anyone on the list, who could buy wholesale, would be willing to buy one for you. Or, do what I have done in the past and contact the owner to ask who will be selling the hybrid in the US.

Re: Adriana, I'm afraid an offset is your only hope as that Australian breeder has a minimum order size, which is pretty prohibitive for individuals. There had been talk of a large group order, but I never heard what happened there.

Thanks for the tips Kristi. :) I will keep that in mind. Sent an email to Fiesta Bulbs so we will see what happens. As far as Adriana, I am still keeping my fingers crossed that someone on the forum would be willing to sell an offset.

I never heard back from Fiesta bulbs and wanted to see if anyone on this forum that is able to purchase wholesale, would consider purchasing a Mega Star and letting me buy it from you? That seems like a lot to ask but I have not had any luck finding it. Also, still looking for an offset of Adriana to purchase. Anyone? :)

I just checked and my Mega Star only has a single bulb. Maybe in the future it will pup.

I have a beautiful and healthy Adriana (as well as many other Aussie cultivars). However, these bulbs are precious to me. My suggestion is that anyone who is interested think about getting together for another group order in spring 2016. With all the detailed planning involved, it is too late for this year. Like Maida, I have a solitary Mega Star bulb. Frustratingly, some Hippeastrum bulbs are very slow to offset! Try White Flower Farm in the fall.

I wrote to Maguire's and they said that they would not ship to the USA because it was too much trouble. Maybe with a large order they will change their mind.

Hi Maida,

Over the years, I've participated
in three orders from Maguire's. They
require a minimum order of 100 bulbs, but there was never a problem in
exceeding that number. There are inspection fees and shipping costs that add
up. There is also risk involved because they don't take responsibility
for shipments after they leave Australia.
However, our packages always arrived. I am also aware of shipments to Canada and Vietnam.

In addition to the beautiful papilio hybrids 'Party Pooper' and 'Party Animal, which some of us already have in our collections, there is another one called 'Party Time.' That might raise some interest.

Please count me in if there is another group order. There are some that I would love to get and also buy replacements for the one's that I lost. I had gotten Party Animal & Party Pooper from Maguire's as well and they are both beautiful. Unfortunately those were the other one's that I lost to rot. When I participated in the group order in 2011, the bulbs shipped out the 2nd week of July but I am not sure how long their shipping season is.

Blanca, Party Time looks like a really nice one. It looks like a darker version of Party Pooper to me, with more stripes. :)

In preparation for the
2009 order, I started corresponding with the Maguires in February of 2008. I was advised to place orders in April because that gives
them plenty of time to make sure everything goes smoothly. For example, they like to ship as early
as possible to make sure that, if a shipment were held up in transit for any
reason, scapes don’t emerge in the box.
Seasons are reversed, and I was told that their bulbs were budding in
July. The preparation for shipping
and inspection process is also lengthy.

In addition, some of the most desirable varieties are in short
supply. To avoid disappointment,
it is best to get the complete order submitted soon after the Maguires know
what will be available in a given year.

I also believe that it is
important to get these bubs planted as soon as possible so that they have
sufficient time to get established before the onset of winter. I just checked my records to see when I
planted the bulbs each year (see below).
Planting in June worked out better for me than in August or September.

Planning and organizing
the Aussie order took a lot of time and energy. Presently, I am inundated with familial responsibilities. I sincerely think that we
should plan ahead and focus on next spring, unless someone with a lot of time

Yes, that makes total sense. I live in TX and summers here can be brutal sometimes. I think that planting earlier rather than later like you did would be a smart thing to do. I may have lost some of mine to rot because of the extreme heat we were having here in July/Aug. I know the order is a lot of work and I wish I had the time or I would offer to do it. I think that next year would be great if someone had the time to do it.

I totally agree! We should do the group order next year, planning ahead of time is better, and we don't want to miss on those precious bulbs that are in short supply!

The three Parties are on my whish list, they are gorgeous, I'm afraid my wish list is only going to get longer! :)

I assume these are for fall shipping, I didn't really delve further for shipping times and I guess now I'll keep checking, hoping we'll see some of those repeat exotics listed but I know after what several of you have said that last year was probably it!!

They owe me a couple of bulbs and I know they owe some of you dozens!!

They typically update their catalog for fall in July. The temps there are much cooler and these may still be available.

Never hurts to contact them and ask if they are still available. When they stop shipping, they usually mark items as not available.

Nothing new or exciting on the RC listing. I hope that they add more.

When you get your bulbs in October do you plant them in pots and bring them inside for the winter? I have planted most of my amaryllis outside in the ground but it was done in the Spring. I covered them with a frost cloth when it got cold but as you know in Texas, we don't usually have very cold winters. I just hesitate to plant them outside that late in the year.

I put them outside on an enclosed porch and then bring them in to enjoy the blooms. Since they tend to be yanked out of the ground by the grower, perhaps in the Southern Hemisphere, they think it's spring and are ready to bloom. I usually don't put mine in the ground until out TX spring, but I grow most of mine in pots so I can shuffle them around.

I just received an email from Royal Colors confirming my order and also saying that their site is now updated with their Fall catalog in case anyone is interested!

So I'm guess that means you have to wait until October for your bulbs!!

I just found the same email in promotions which I only rarely look at. Well, at least you'll get fresh bulbs, not bulbs that have been hanging around and refrigerated forever and you'll be sure to get your varieties (ha ha) and you can add to your order as they add new varieties! Donna☺☺

Yes, Kristi and Donna I am totally ok with waiting because I honestly didn't think I would find Mega Star again. Not too sure why it's been so hard to get. I had actually got my original bulb from Maria on here when she was selling on Ebay but I don't think she does that any longer.

Sorry to bump, is the list doing a Maguire's order? I loved the ones I had, I'm hoping to replace my 'Rebel', it was one of my overall favorites.

Aussie Group Order

Josh, I too finally lost my Rebel but I have a few selfed seedling growing on, just a few though. I can't wait to see if they resemble their mother. This picture was from 2010 and I had blooms from her for the next 2 years and then she died! Actually, she was virused and one year I took about 15 virused bulbs outside and planted them against a south facing stone wall and left them out for the winter. A few of them bloomed and then they all died during the summer. She was even more stunning in person as you know!

I remember the first year she bloomed I sent selfed seeds to several people on this forum, I never heard if anyone had any success with them, I fear not.

I found a source for Maguire bulbs here in the US. It is called Sweet Dream Amaryllis and they are out of Florida. They say they have over 70 varieties of Maguire bulbs but only list a fraction of that number. Be careful ordering on line. There is something wrong with their shipping charges. It is twice what they list on their web site. Order by mail instead. I am still waiting for a resolution on my order. They don't list the really good ones, but there may be something you are interested in. At least we have access to some of the Maguire varieties.
