Although 150 miles north of you and about two weeks behind the Metro area in spring really springing, there's no sign of leafing on my ninebarks yet either. I don't have any of the tree form; might have to look for one. Mine are 8-10 years old now and come through blistering cold winters like champs. I'd say pretty normal. The recent rains may cause things to pop.

If you're really nervous, you could make a small nick on the bark of a branch and check for the green layer.

Thanks for the prompt reply, dib. I'd be less concerned were it not the tree form, but will wait it out and, if patience fails, will try the nicking trick.
