My ninebark - shrub form - has only just recently leafed out after a incredibly mild winter for even my very mild climate. I'd be a bit more patient before I became overly concerned ;-))

My Physocarpus aren't even thinking about leafing out yet.

so.. they say wait.... and i agree.. down here near ann arbor .. NOTHING is ready to sprout ...

that said.. next time.. do NOT plant leafed out trees in mid summer ... just put the pot in full bright shade.. and HOLD IT ... until the next proper planting season .. which would have been.. right after the leaves fell off it ... [ i fully understand impulse/bargain buying .. but my odds of success went up substantially.. when i realized ... just because i buy it ... that does NOT mean its the proper time to plant it]

i just walked by mine ... after 4 days of 60s and 3 warm rains ... that really makes a difference for soil temps ... mine has sprouted ...

All mine show signs of life.

Leaves partly formed for some time here. Mine isn't 'Diabolo' but I think when I go to local outlets all the purple or purplish forms in stock have had something going on for awhile.

In Zone 8.

Try scraping the bark to see if it is live underneath.

Ah, at last some signs of life! A patience problem, I guess, and not the first time. Thanks to all who responded and got me through the waiting period :-)
