Saving seeds for Love Lies Bleeding

Has anyone successfully saved seeds from the Love Lies Bleeding Amaranth? I have purchased seeds several times. They are black. The seeds I get in the fall are beige. I am wondering if our Minnesota season is too short to fully mature this amaranth seed.
