D & A rug issues

Help, My D & A indoor/outdoor rug, which is about 8 months old, is like an old dish rag. It started out feeling like a typical poly rug but quickly softened up. It feels more like a cotton rug and it is always bunching up and we wind up tripping over it. It gets vacuumed regularly but I have never washed it, I am afraid it would get softer still. It is on a rug pad chosen by the carpet store as being good for that style of rug. I love the color, Marina Stripe, and it looks beautiful as long as we don't walk on it.

That doesn't sound right. Between my DD & me we have 7 of their indoor/outdoor rugs. My oldest is 7 yrs. old. It's a runner behind the island at our lake kitchen & it gets good scrubbing at least once a year, dries flat on our deck, & looks nearly new. It's Navy/Ivory, I think called Captain's Stripe.

DD has had a cream & black stripe one under her dining table for 5 yrs. That gets washed a couple times a yr. & spot-cleaned often as she has 2 young girls. Still looks & feels great.

I have a room-size cotton D&A that I use in the lake LR in summer. That's a whole different animal. It's pretty & colorful (Framboise stripe) but hard to vac & I'm sure would easily stain (we have a no-food rule in that room).

But the indoor/outdoor ones should not be breaking down as you've described. I would definitely contact customer service.

I too thought it was a bargain for the color and style I wanted. DH is saying toss that rag before someone trips over it and breaks something. I will contact customer service and see what they say.

We have other brands of indoor/outdoor rugs, we have a large dog and they work well by the doors for muddy paws. The others have substance and have held up for years. D & A is such a disappointment.

Regular vacuuming is really good for the health of your hard earned rug. It also makes the fibres look beautiful.

Is your problem that the rug bunches up or that it has softened? I have a large D&A rug in my living room and it drives me absolutely crazy because my dog is always lifting the corners when he runs around. I had one of those no-slip things underneath, then I tried carpet tape on the corners, but that didn't work too well either. I recently asked a salesperson at a local shop that sells them and she said to put the tape down first, then the non-slip thing, then the rug. So the tape holds the no-slip thing (what the heck are they called?) down and then the rug should stay put. I haven't tried it yet but plan on doing it soon. It sounds like it might just work. They are definitely rugs that don't stay put, especially with excitable pets jumping around!

    Very timely post!

Dataw - what other indoor/ outdoor brand rugs do you have? Would you recommend those brands?

Gail618 - If you try the tape, non slip rug pad trick will you post the outcome and if it's working for you or not?

    Thanks
