New Kitchen Aid Induction Range

Has anyone seen the new Kitchen Aid Induction Range? It has a 7.1 cu ft oven and looks very nice. I have not even been able to fine many photos of i. There is only one photos of the front of it online, I cannot imagine ordering it completely sight unseen. I have been to several upscale retail stores trying to fine it and most have not even heard of it. It is sad that most don;t even know the basics of induction.

This is somewhat related to this discussion- how many of you received the free cookware set that was offered with the purchase of the KA and JA induction ranges. Our set came today and it does one thing that I think is odd compared to our old Italian-made Costco steel set. In boost mode heating water, and just before a boil, there is a prominent humming and what seems like increased vibration. I have not noticed this with any other cookware that we are using. I don't know if this "hum" indicates efficiency or not. Does anyone know? I conducted experiments today with three kinds of cookware using one quart pans with one quart of cold water. The new KA pan boiled water one minute faster than the other two by one minute. The sound the pan makes seems strange. The other KA pans so the same thing on high power. Would like to hear from other people who received this set or from those who understand the physics of induction which could explain this. Thanks!

Not to get dual threads going but I think it fits best here. So, my bottom baking drawer won't turn off. The heating element revs up to 500+ (based on oven thermometer), but then seems to cycle off at the peak time. I've tried flipping the breaker, unplugging, turning on different heat settings (keep warm; slow cook) and nothing's working. KA is sending someone this week, they had no ideas on the phone beyond what I had tried. The appliance store I bought from said that they'd replace it but it will take a few weeks since they have none in stock. Same for any of my other finalists. They suggest we have service come and see what they say and go from there. In the meantime they said to use it while I'm home and actively cooking and flip the breaker when I'm not. It's far from ideal but at least I can cook tomorrow's second thanksgiving dinner.

Obviously if anyone has any ideas, i would be all ears.

I've had my Jenn Air induction for 2 weeks and absolutely love it. Am waiting for the rebaye(free cookware) but in the meanwhile have been using the induction Calphalon cookware I purchased over the last few years. ( all pieces bought over time from TJ Maxx). One pot makes a slight humming sound when used on power boost on the large ring. The others don't. The convection fan in the oven is extremely quiet ( my previous range was a JA as well and that fan was loud.) I actually thought the oven wasn't working. The bottom baking drawer works well, though I think I might need to turn the pan around for even baking in that. ( to be fair I've only baked in the drawer once). Overall, very happy with my purchase.

    Hello Ron

I burned off the oven, but not the baking drawer, when I received my range and was very surprised by the length of time the ventilation fan ran. Can't recall the temp. or time used but the fan certainly ran more than an hour.

I haven't heard the ventilation fan! I burned off my oven at 400 degrees twice, for over 1 hr each time. We also used the oven on TG for about 2 hours at temps between 350 and 450 and no ventilation fan! Is mine not working? I haven't used it every day because still renovating, but am cooking right now at 400 and no fan. I have one small pan simmering lentils on the cooktop and it is clicking about every 2-3 seconds. It is power 2. Not sure what I think about the clicking. Also dropping some water on the slider, did change the power, but I caught it easily. This is only the third or fourth time I have used the cooktop. I will have to watch out for the condensation from the lid, which is what dropped on the slider. Should I be hearing a fan?

I take back what I wrote about the fan. I just heard it. We had the broiler on for 10 minutes and say 15 minutes later when I went into the kitchen I heard a very faint fan sound and warm air seemed to be exiting from the back vents. Not blowing, just rising up out of the vent holes. I had had the hood on low earlier and turned it off when I left the kitchen, that's probably why I didn't hear it earlier.

Not sure if I was unclear about the fan, but actually my drawer heating element is what won't turn off, even after hitting cancel. It's not indicating it's on via the control panel, but it is. I've been referring to it as satan's oven since you can see the bright orange glow of the heating element. Pretty crazy. At least I was able to confirm tonight that it cycles off when it hit max temp (about 500) but I had to shut off at the breaker tonight before bed or else it would stay on roaring hot all night.

I'm pretty sure this is what JWVideo was talking about with the bursts of pulse on the KA. Do all induction cook this way, with the clicks as it cycles on and off?

my range is still not available since i ordered from july, 2015 (more than 1 year) . and i am in from Ontario. i knew there is a delay but is that only my case?

Ron, was your warming drawer issue fixed yet? Also, how bad is the pulsing? Is it with all of your pots or only some? Does it only do it on the very lowest setting?

    Anon,
Repairman came. First said my ground was improperly set and I needed an electrician. He came back 10 minutes later to say he called whirlpool with the readings and they said it was actually correct for induction. He admitted he didn't realize it was an induction range. They said it sounds like a stuck control board so they ordered another. Should be in this weekend.

The pulsing is very obvious to me. It's definitely turning on/off/on/off especially at the low end. I've cooked on it quite a bit and am still struggling to get adjusted. But overall I'm happy with induction. I notice that there's a big difference in buzzing from burner to burner and pan to pan. Were you able to see the on/off/on/off in the YouTube video?

Herktam, I ordered my range on November 18 and had it delivered 1 week later. It was moved from a warehouse in Vancouver to our house on Vancouver Island. I know regional availability might be the issue, but it seems ridiculous you'd be waiting on a range you ordered almost a year and a half ago.

In videos showing how to set the temperature for a burner, they always select the burner and then slide their finger from left to right across the tiny circles. But is it necessary to slide? Can you just touch the circle you want?

I know that may sound petty, but having to slide every time sounds pretty annoying.

Popped back in here after a while, and noticed there were quite a few questions...may be too late, but I'll give my input!

I LOVE my Kitchenaid still. It is absolutely NOT flimsy, in fact if you look at the specs its extremely similar to the Jenn Aire (same company). The Jenn Aire and Kitchenaid both are great...I chose Kitchenaid because of the pro style handle, slightly larger over, and a GREAT price match. That's really it, I would have been happy with either one. The door is much heavier than my last Whirlpool range....its definitely built solid. Same with the Jenn Aire, I have seen them both side by side to compare.

Regarding the "bow on the pig" comment....I have a client that is the service manager of a large appliance store in my area (its who I bought my Kitchenaid from). He has always told me Kitchenaid/Jenn Aire is one of the top brands on the market, they get the least service calls for them and the parts are extremely easy to get when they do need repair. Kitchenaid is all he will put in his own home. I have a 8 year old Kitchenaid dishwasher I LOVE, no issues....a Kitchenaid microwave that is over 2 years old that I love, no issues, and my range. My mom's Kitchenaid appliances lasted 25 years until she finally decided to upgrade appliances not out of necessity...she just wanted newer/better.

No issues whatsoever with my range. My friends are extremely jealous. Still have not been able to use my steam rack. My door doesn't get hot at all...not the exterior, nothing. Love the second oven, it is an actual oven that you can bake in. I've baked in it and I have used it as a warming drawer (has a keep warm feature).

Rob, you can slide or you can touch, either one. It took some getting used to as I had knobs but I love it. Stays so much cleaner and I don't have to worry about food and gunk getting up under the knobs. I usually slide now, its really not annoying at all, just a function of the cooktop. Very easy to acclimate to.

Thanks Leslie! Glad to hear you are still happy with it since that is what we ordered for our new build!

a few reviews I've read stated that this oven takes longer to preheat, my current oven takes about 5mins, so how much longer does this one take in minutes? Also read that this oven is very noisy, is that true?

"rych: ... my current oven takes about 5mins ..."

Seems unlikely any full-size oven heats to a stable target temperature in 5 mins ... meaning the entire mass of the oven cavity, walls and racks along with the interior air volume.

Saturday evening we had dinner guests. There were several items to go in the oven. Two items on 300° and one on 425°. I set the temps and asked my husband to put the items into the ovens of our 40 (not a typo!) year old range separate ovens. One oven is huge and under the cooktop. The other is pretty much in my face and smaller. Yes, the thing is a relic. Almost retro! Lol. I went off to get in the shower. Later he came up to tell me that the upper oven was still preheating. Clearly, we had a problem. Thankfully, our guests are close friends and rolled with our combined maneuvers to get our dinner on the table. A good bit of wine helped. Obviously, it is time for that new induction range l have been thinking of for two years. I had nailed it down to either the KA or JA. Then, the bridge element pushed me toward the JA. Tonight, I have been reading all your posts on this forum back two years and am grateful that I will not have a two year wait as several of you have. My angst and delayed decision has been because of two issues. One, is not having two ovens. The other is wondering whether or not the bottom bake oven actually works. It appears that the little oven does work and that will take care of my first issue. So thank you, each of you. I have tried unsuccessfully to find reviews for these two ranges but could not find much on either of them. Not a clue why. But this forum will allow me to go ahead with my order and not look back.

Fans??? I am short and want to get an over the range vent fan instead of an over the range microwave. Any suggestions?? Thank you all for genuine real life experiences.

We got a simple hood fan with good light from Costco of all things. It works very well and is enough for the induction cooktop. I have found that I haven't needed as much of a fan for this stove as for my gas cooktop. I don't tend to fry which might make a difference.

i would like to have a vent hood that will handle my frying chicken, fish, or green tomatoes. It won't be often, but I would like that ability. I have not had a fan that worked well for 40 years!!! Today I discovered that KitchenAid does have the induction range with 2 actual ovens. However, the controls are on the back which makes it have the older style raised back look. Why are KitchenAid and JennAir making induction ranges that are almost identical? I am told they are both made by Whirlpool. So, any with other fan ideas?

I bought a Staub 10 in. grill pan for steaks, etc. It's cast iron with an enameled exterior. Placed it on the front right largest burner and the burner repeatedly shut down. Any thoughts why?

b, did you get an error message? I had my burner shut off like that just once, when I put cast iron on it and set the temperature at some high level to preheat (I forget exactly, but higher than 7): it overheated the burner, which shut down automatically.

I've had no trouble once I started setting the temp at 7 for sauteing and stir frying; it's not necessary to go higher than that. I only use the higher settings for things like boiling water, where the water absorbs the heat and keeps the metal in the pan from getting incredibly hot, which is what can happen when you're preheating a pan and the heat has nowhere to go except into the metal of that pan.

I have had the KA induction slide in for a month and I love it. It's sturdy and well constructed, has great features, and has features I didn't realize at purchase. I thought the lower drawer was only for warming but it's actually a baking drawer though I did try baking biscuits at 450 and they were OK but tops didn't brown so I put them under upper broiler. I think the drawer is best for something like lasagna. Burners have individual timers (though they don't turn off the burner when timer ends). The controls are so simple to use. I really wanted knobs on my range but compromised and I'm so glad I did. There is no learning curve for using these controls, except maybe in knowing what number is best for cooking rice, grilling sandwiches, etc. Slider is so fast, and burners turn off if pot is removed. No knob make it easy to clean. The oven fan is very quiet, I only noticed it recently. KA customer service has been great. I called to register and mentioned that there was a scratch on stove top glass. I hadn't used it yet and figured I was stuck with it cause I didn't notice at delivery. They sent a serviceman, and less than a week later put an entire new top on range. Unfortunately, the next day after the replacement was installed, I scratched it myself:(. I had my smallest (and not heavy) KA saucepan with 1 cup of water and slid it toward me to see if there was enough water for a cup of tea. It made a shallow scratch. This was from a new KA SS pot with no rough spot I could find with my hands. Now I'm careful not to slide anything. The oven takes a little longer to preheat but not terrible and it's a big cavity. I don't like how quiet the timer alarms are. I like the alarms to sound loudly until I turn them off. SS on side and front and top near controls gets warm, not hot enough to burn but hot enough to warn my kids, which is good. From an efficiency standpoint, this heat loss isn't great also worry it could degrade controls. The burners kind of cycle/buzz on low temps. On my 2nd day using range, I had a pot of red sauce simmering and I was also working with my kids at kitchen table. It buzzed every few seconds and was annoying and I felt something was wrong. When service guy came for scratch, he said all induction does that at lower temps. Anyway, it's not bothersome at all unless simmering for hours, but not really bothersome to me anymore either. I haven't used the bridge because I haven't gotten a griddle. I really look forward to using. I will say that one of my worries was only having one big burner, yet this is working well for me.

Overall, I love the range and love cooking with induction! I really like the $120 set KA SS cookware I found on clearance and am looking forward to the free promotion set from KA which should be here anyday.

I also got the overrange microwave and love it. I now have an extra cabinet and I really like how the microwave functions, and range light and vent are good, though don't have time for full review.

Edit: Range didn't include meat probe. After searching through everything multiple times, I called KA who said the probes were back ordered and they were shipping ranges without them. Without them but without a notifier!! Lame! So if you notice and call, they'll put you on the list, but otherwise, they save money by not including meat probes. I think they should put some notifier in the package so people aren't wasting time looking for it like I was. I was annoyed. Hope that works well when it comes and I hope it turns off the oven like my old one but I don't see a button for that on range and it's not in tools so maybe not... I haven't read manual.

We ended up getting the 30" Jenn-Air Induction slide in range. It does have a 4 pronged plug so we had to change out the wall plug. I have only used it for a few days but absolutely love it. The very shallow bake/warming drawer DOES work, yea! We got an 18" tall Vent-A-Hood. Very pricey but what would work for the look and situation we have. Since the large range unit we replaced covered this entire area, there was no tile behind it. I found a 30"x32" Kobe Stainless Steel backsplash with a rolled edge on Amazon for $108. It does have double sided tape on the edges and we added a flat head screw at the bottom and into a stub for extra support. This is hidden behind the range. Now the whole thing looks like one unit and is beautiful. Later, if we choose to replace the tile in our kitchen we can either leave the backsplash or take it down and tile it. We had a certified Jenn-Air installer and he supplied me with his certificate number to include with the registration. That gave us an additional year of warrantee, for a total of 3 years. That is 2 years more than the Kitchen Aid. We love it all and would not change a thing.

I am thrilled with my JENN AIR 30" induction range. I have had it for 3 weeks and could not be happier. the JENN AIR and KTICHEN AID are both made by Whirlpool and are identical with few exceptions. The JA has a soft close door. Both have Aquilift oven cleaning and it does work and easily. We christened the oven bottom the first night! I had wondered whether the small bottom oven would actually work and it does. The controls of the unit of so so simple. I did read the manual. DO READ the manual, there are tips that you want. The eyes are very nice. I have read horror stories about very temperamental super sensitive eyes. These are not. I already had a few pieces of Calphalon and AllClad. They work beautifully. I purchased some Cuisinart that was made for induction use. It had some little dots on the bottom and would not work on all eyes. I returned it. Don't get anything that doesn't have a flat bottom. The reason we purchased the JA instead of the KA was a decor decision. The JA has a softer looking Stainless steel finish and the handles are curved which works better with our refrigerator and is more compatible with other brands. The JA was $300 more but I would not change my choice. Looks great and we are thrilled.. I would not get any other brand than the JA or KA . ( All the service providers really caution against Samsung. They are adamant. Don't buy Samsung.) A friend also got the JA last fall. She loves it too!!! Happy cooking.

averymaples, your picture looks great. I think the stainless steel backsplash works really well.

We have had our KA for about 6 months now. I did try to return it after some buyers remorse and several issues early on. But it's worked out for the best to keep it. I've adjusted to the digital controls, and the speed of induction. More importantly, my mom is happy with it. One note, the self clean is terrible. Also, I like the idea of the stainless backsplash above. We have bare wall behind and it's discoloring quite a bit at the rear vent.

The self clean is terrible--that's why I won't consider this range or its Jenn Aire sibling.

you should be able to see the KA or JA on line. I have been able to both in Knoxville. actually their are very inclusive videos on the KA with all the whistles and bells. the finish is different. KA shinier. the handles are different and the JA has a soft close door. the bottom oven does work. it will bake a tray of cookies or shallow casserole. no rising bread. I have had JA for one month and love it. LOVE IT!
PS just saw that someone said the aqua lift clean does not work.. I beg to differ. the first night we burned pizza grease and cheese onto the oven bottom. 2 weeks later I used the aqualift system.. cleaner it right off. IT DOES WORK.

Aqualift seems to work a lot better for small and/or recent soiled areas than the really heavily baked on stuff. I think the lesson here is to change your habits and run the cycle a lot more often than you would a regular self-clean.

It seemed pretty well bake on after two weeks. I was really surprised that it came completely off. I am just thrilled with the JA.

I have a question for anyone who has either of these ranges: What are the minimum and maximum temps for the main oven?

Also, if you have used the steam assist, any feedback on how well it worked (or didn't)?

I used the steam bake for a cheesecake and it cooked beautifully. Really loving my KA induction range!

I have the Jenn Air induction range. The highest bake temperature is 500* and the lowest is 145*. Someone mentioned biscuits not browning on top. The rack may be in the wrong position OR the temparature of the oven may need to be recalibrated. The JA has an adjustment feature that can either add up to +30 or down to -30. This is in case your oven needs to be recalibrated. How to do it is in the manual. I love my JA induction range and will never want anything else again. No, not even gas.

    1) Touch, I just touch. 2) Yes, wet hands will work. Nothing difficult! 3) Very quickly got used to it!!! Of course, you really should read the manual. Nothing I would change.

Do get the glass top/stainless cleaner with your range. I think it was $15 and works so well.

    Thanks for the response

I scratched it myself:(. I had my smallest (and not heavy) KA saucepan with 1 cup of water and slid it toward me to see if there was enough water for a cup of tea. It made a shallow scratch.

We have had the exact same range (KSIB900ESS) and after just 2 weeks of moderate use (we dont have many pans that are induction ready) there are a couple of scratches. It is way to easy to mar this (ceramic) top. I thought we were careful. I wonder if KA will replace the top given the age of the appliance.

Sorry you got scratches. I have been really worried so cooked on parchment paper that I precut in squares (reused when I could). That was fine, but I wanted something that wasn't disposable. I found these on Amazon and absolutely love them! Thought I would pass along to others.

Oven takes a little longer to preheat

It is crazy long :(. For our 'specimen' it takes 16 minutes to go from 0 to 350 F!

Scratching is my biggest hesitation in purchasing the induction. I have young teens that are just starting to cook. For the early adopters, what does your cooktop look like now and if you had two 12 year old boys, would you suggest taking a pass on an induction?

I ended up buying a Bosch Benchmark induction cooktop. I love having a great looking kitchen, but I love having a working family kitchen more. L.earning how to cook means how to wash, clean, be respectful of your tools, but not to the detriment of enjoying cooking for yourself, family and friends. Investigate the following: replacement cost for new glass top and then build that into your budget costs for every few years if the battle scars bug you that much. But worrying about scratches while trying to enjoy boys in the kitchen? Your tocque is on backwards ;-) Have a good time. They grow and are gone much too soon!

P.S. I should have said as well that the scars will represent the "Remember when?..."

@Kelly Doonan The benefits of cooking on induction and its ease of cleaning completely outweigh any scratches. My cooktop from 2011 has some scratches - mainly my own doing - but the scratches don't bother me at all, and they are hard to see unless you look closely. It still looks great, and I still love it. (Except mine clicks, but maybe they don't any more? And I've gotten used to the clicking after all this time.)

We took delivery of our KA Induction range KSIB900ESS in early October 2017 but it was only recently that we used the convection feature of the oven. And lo and behold it didnt work. Specifically the fan does not come on at any time with the oven on. The service rep has ordered a new fan motor but was told later that it is a "special order" and not available at this time :(.
