If you like a modern look, consider placing handles horizontal.

HI -- I know for sure you are going to come to hate those particular handles no matter which way you put them . They will catch on every sleeve and pocket because of the overhang on each end . Find one piece handles that have full bend ends .

in your picture there is wood with the slats going horizontaly. If that is part of the room I would do the same direction with the handles. I think it would look more cohesive that way. The previous comment is true about them catching on everything.Just so you know

Ditto on the comments about them catching your pockets, sleeves, etc. I would choose one that bends/connects all the way from one side to the other. I DO love me some hardware!! It's the jewelry of a space!

These are Belwith satin nickel pulls from the Zephyr collection. We used 96 mm drill center but they also come larger and a matching knob is available. Made of zinc. Feel substantive not dainty. Won't get caught in clothes. The base of the pull is big enough to hide a drill hole that is not perfectly aligned in case you have to make your initial hole a little wider so the screw will fit into the base. Found in the special order display at Lowe's but ordered from Belwith direct for about $5 each.
