Sorie, I don't grow it, but I am going to Sand Springs this weekend to the herbal festival (we've never been, but it sounds like a chance for me to by yet MORE plants). If we see any, we will pick some up and bring it to the fling (I've been interested in it also)

I grow it some years but haven't had it since probably 2010 or 2011. I just planted three Pineapple Sage plants yesterday. I found them on the Bonnie Plants rack at a Wal-Mart on Tuesday. I actually bought only one pot (it was a 3 or maybe 3.5" peat pot) but it had three plants in it. I just removed and discarded the peat pot and carefully divided and planted the three plants separately. It isn't easy to find, but the Bonnie Plants' displays at stores usually have a few. I think at the particular Wal-Mart where I was shopping, it is likely a truckload of fresh plants had just arrived because most of the displays were completely full as if the area had just been restocked----not a display stripped nearly bare of all plants like I have seen at several local stores the last couple of weekends. It is prime planting season at my end of the state and you can see it in the way the seed racks and garden center shelves get wiped out over the weekend.

I was shopping in Texas about 45 miles south of the Red River and they may get their herb plants in the stores there a week or two before you'd see them in stores near you since you're a lot farther north, but I think I saw Pineapple Sage on the BP rack at the Ardmore Wal-Mart at least 2 weeks ago. Also, don't forget there are some great herb festivals in Spring and you likely could find all kinds of herbs there that are not easily found otherwise. There's also the Cherry St. Farmer's Market in Tulsa.

The Sand Springs Herb Festival is this coming weekend. If I lived at your end of the state, I'd go to it every year.

Jessaka, mine never last more than a season. Sorie, you need to go visit TLC on Memorial in north OKC if you are coming up here! I have seen pineapple sage in several places, but I can't remember where now, of course! Probably at Precure, but maybe even Lowes.

I grew it 2 years ago. It's a beautiful plant, nice red flowers, but I wouldn't cook with it, just no taste. I bought a plant from Duck Creek for this year.

ok, now I'm really looking forward to you all being here because I have what I've been told is a "pineapple sage" by DH's mom. It's lived here longer than I have. It's on the south side of the house by my front steps. The blooms are beautiful red and the hummer's love them. It's a airy low growing shrub. So Sorie6, if it is indeed what you're seeking - I'll give you a piece with roots.

Paula, That does sound like pineapple sage. I love it. I've never had it survive the winter here unless the winter was very dry. I think my clay holds too much water in winter for the pineapple sage to be happy.

I grew pineapple sage for years. It is beautiful in the fall, but it typically bloomed so late that the frost got it fist. When it was in bloom, it would be covered with large bees that would cut the flowers to get to the nectar. Bloomed too late for the hummers. James

Didn't make it to the herb festival. Ended up having a lovely visit with my friend instead (in Tulsa). She just can't do the walking right now.

I met a lady at a garage sale here and she had it in her back yard and it was huge!! I took cuttings and seeds but got nothing!! :( Funny the name display is Bonnie and the lady's name where I got the seeds and cuttings is Bonnie!!!
