Kitchen Sink Organization

Hi All -

I'm putting together a prototype for a sink-organization product that keeps your sponges, scour pads, scrub brushes, etc.. organized and off of the counter to make for easy cleaning. I'd like to get your opinions on what I've put together so far. So, let me know what you think!

The problem: Brushes, sponges, and brillo pads usually sit on the edge of a sink when not in use. They leave stains on the sink and look cluttered/disorganized. The sink organizers that clip to the side of the sink take up space and get in the way when washing large items (especially in a small sink).

I'm putting together a prototype for a clip-on sink organizer that attaches to your sink's faucet. The benefits are that you keep all your cleaning utensils up off of the counter (which makes wiping the surface clean easy), and organizes all these tools at the same time without taking up any counter space or sink space.

This is the prototype:

It has a hook for a scrub brush, and a small basket for sponges, pads, etc.. To install, all you need to do is clip it to your faucet (with the green clip shown in the photos)

I'd like to hear what you think about this. Is this something you would want? Why/why not? Do you have any other functionality you would want from a device like this?

Thanks!!

Not for me. I don't like a lot of clutter, and your device to me looks a lot more cluttered than just having the things on the counter/back of the sink.

I would rather put things away under the sink than hang them fro the faucet.

I might use something like that in a laundry sink (if I had a laundry sink).

I don't think it would fit on my faucet, which is a lot shorter than the picture. I have a wire basket with suction cups that attaches to the side of the sink I put all that stuff in.

    Looks silly.

nah... It DOES make it more visible.

I wouldn't want it. I don't like my faucet encumbered. I move my faucet around, and I'd worry the clip-on thing would pop off. Plus it would just make me feel crowded.

I also have a pullout faucet, and I wouldn't want to bump into the stuff clipped to the faucet. Another functionality problem you'd have is that not every faucet is shaped like that.

And as everyone says, it's worse looking than the mess on the countertop.
I personally have solved this problem by putting some of the less-used stuff (steel-wool-type scrubbers, scrub brush) in the tilt-out in the front of my sink cabinet, and using a sponge holder just for the sponge.

If I didn't have a tilt-out, I'd have attached a basket to the inside of the sink cabinet door, near the top, for those things.

One common problem w/ gadgets like this, I think, is that people try to make them do everything.

Good luck w/ your project, though! Are you taking some sort of class, or are you just inventing?

My stuff goes in my tilt out. Love it, out of sight!

And, if the sponge and scrubbing brush are wet, they will drip on the back of the sink.

Worse than having them in the sink.

I wouldn't like it at all....

Everyone's manage system is different as we all know. Me? I am anal about labeling, storing, and managing...hey, that's why I frequent this forum looking for ideas.
My kitchen sink must not have anything in or around it in fact I wish I had 2 under counter soap dispensers one for dish soap one for hand soap. I try to limit under the sink to necessary items. I know, time to cull out some stuff.

Our sink area isn't so uncluttered and I see a need for something to help with those things. (Part of the compromise that has developed where I do the cooking and hubbie does the dished.)

One on the faucet would not help me at all. Something that looked like a vase with grid shelves to help with draining / drying yet easy to use is interesting. Others might prefer something in the shape of an animal, pig?

I don't think I would care for it in the kitchen, but I suspect it could be very well received in a commercial or institutional setting....

I don't think most people would like everything hanging from the faucet. The one that clips onto the side is hidden a little more from view.

No, I would not like that. It just lifts all your messy stuff up so it's more visible.

Nope, I don't like clutter and IMO, it's visually unappealing.

Not for me. Everything is mostly under the sink. I could buy into the type that attaches to the inside of the sink more but what you have never. My new house will have the pull down drawer.

Sorry, not for me either. Too much clutter. I have some plastic pullout drawers that fit perfectly under my sink. In the top drawer I keep my dishwasher tabs. In the second drawer I keep my sponges, dish brush, vegetable brushes (in a separate small container inside the drawer), etc. In the third drawer I have backup supply of sponges and dish brush, and, finally, in the fourth drawer (the largest drawer) I keep microfiber cloths for wiping down the appliances and granite counter tops. On top of the drawers I keep a supply of liners for my garbage can , and I keep a very small dish drainer between the side of the cabinet and the plastic drawers. No muss, no fuss.

No! Cure is worse than disease!

You can staple gun a lightweight plastic storage container (like lunchmeat comes in) to the inside of a cabinet door that makes a dandy holder for a sponge and a scrubbie.I can't abide stuff like that just lying around or being visible.

    Agree, too much visible clutter.

speaking of staple-gunning to the back of the door: I once cut down a set of plastic shoe pockets and staple-gunned them to the back of a sink-cabinet door.
