I can't identify it but hope someone can. I have it all over my flower beds and paths. It grows in a mat habit and is nearly impossible to pull out.

Thank you so much for your quick replies! I had a suspicion of chickweed.. but wasn't too sure. I do find it very pretty though! Think I'll just move the pot and see how long I can admire it without it taking over. :-)

If it gets in your yard, you won't admire it. LOL. Best to get rid of it now.

I believe some folks consider it a good cold weather salad herb.

Well I am up for it... eating weeds as salad i mean...

How do they taste? bland like lettuce or sweet like Collards ( yes they tasted very sweet this winter) or bitter like Endives or spicy like arugula. I like all these flavors..

Oh and yes I will be on the lookout for this one. I am sure it is growing in my yard... all weeds do .

The season for it is almost over so it will be hard to find. It has a green grass smell but no flavor. It is easy to eat and good to have around and if you have chickens, they will love you for growing it - they don't call it Chickweed for nothing.

I'm not sure that that's chickweed. I'm not sure what it is, but it kinda looks like a native wildflower, Venus' Looking Glass (Triodanis perfoliata).

Have a look at these photos at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildlower Center to compare.

Chickweed is surprisingly tasty, but I'd check out your plant a bit more before eating it... Here's a link on foraging for Chickweed, and the person who wrote the article mentions that it is sometimes confused with Petty Spurge.

Weeds grown in pots in favorable conditions may look a bit different from weeds grown out in the yard, competing with grass and other weeds...

So, Chick weed has tiny white flowers and the Venus looking glass has purple?

Here are images from my garden which I am assuming is chickweed Right now these do not have flowers ( tiny white ). Any one?

What is the verdict?

Venus' Looking Glass. They usually aren't up and growing in April but maybe this one was in a pot that was protected somehow.
