New backsplash idea

Hi all. Many of you chimed in a few weeks back when I asked about Aquario granite and a coordinating backsplash. I am thinking about a new direction now. Quick recap. I am doing a kitchen in a beachfront condo in FL. It is small. U-shaped. About 39 square feet of backsplash (walls are around 11 feet--one has very little backsplash bc of pantry, fridge, etc.). Our condo has blue/white striped couches that we plan to keep and a beautiful view of the ocean. The cabinets will be white. Decor is kind of British Colonial, tropical, beach, elegant. I am keeping drapes that are there that are a coral and colorful tropical print. Condo is small enough that those drapes and other colors in art (like coral, turquoise, blue) influence what I want to do in kitchen. Here is my new idea. How do you all feel about this tile with the blue where the green is? I will include a few pics to help explain. The circles on the patterned tile are about four inches tall. I am deciding if I would do this as an accent behind cooktop with white or blue field tile in subway shape...? Or, the pattern throughout or is the pattern too much for the small kitchen? Then, if yes to this tile, what counters? I assume a plain quartz...? Pic below is of kitchen now. We will take out soffits and have cab to ceiling. Flooring will be travertine. Range hood will raise up so there is 30 inches between hood and counter. Thanks for an thoughts!!!

Tile is white glass with the color. By Kaleidoscope.

Absolutely chose a tile that you love.

We all have different taste and the FL aesthetic is very different from that north of the Mason Dixon line, but to me, yes, that tile is too busy for such a small space, even as an accent tile. Am I reading correctly that you will have white cabs and white Quartz counters? I understand the urge to bring in blue in the tiles, but not in a pattern. Consider a simple handmade tile with some color variation from tile to tile (not the Murano glass look with swirls within each tile).

As for the floors, avoid 12" x 12" if you can (and travertine altogether, for that matter). Instead consider less dated looks in grey, either a large format tile, or a rectangular porcelain tile. It'll look much better with all the colors you hope to keep.

eam, thanks for the input. I don't really love gray. I like the idea of travertine b/c it is the color of sand. I know that gray is more current, but I think we will end up with sand colored tile. I do appreciate your thoughts on the size of the pattern for backsplash. I am kind of thinking that too now. I am definitely considering just a blue tile too. And lots of other things! counters aren't decided--I will either choose tile or counters first. Trying to find a jumping off point. Thanks again for weighing in.

jlc, I have seen this photos and I think I have it on Pinterest. Good reminder. It is pretty. I don't think it is Blue Celeste, though. That is the counter material. I think this tile is glass. Maybe Sonoma Vihara...Thanks for the suggestion, this is a good option.

I live in Florida near the water. Have you thought about a wood look tile. There are many out there now that are the lighter color with a coastal look.

I absolutely LOVE the patterned tile and think it would look wonderful in the blue. I love spaces that are different than what everyone else is doing and that have a spark of personality...I say GO FOR IT!!!

I don't think it's too busy. The circles are only 4". There's another small circular mosaic tile that members here have used and it blends together. Using it as just an accent is choppy and busy though.

This is a second home, yes? If so, I think you can go fun and different for the backsplash. If it were your main residence, I might be more inclined to play it safe, but I think I would go brighter and more of a statement tile for a vacation home. I would go with a plain Quartz, maybe even a blue.
