bbtrix - install ? Stages 45

Ok, now that I've made my decision and ordered, I'm gathering the threads that discussed installation to hand over to my contractor. I thought I remembered reading a rather detailed thread from you, but I can't find it. Do you have a thread out there that I'm missing? Or is my decision overload brain making things up?

For those of you who have similar questions, here are the threads I've located so far - each of them have something about installation...

I thought I'd consolidate my info that is in a few threads and add photos that may help your brother. Much will depend on your cabinet structure.

We first joined the 36" sink base and the 24" cab which I converted from a sink base by adding drawer hardware and drawer pullouts on the interior.

He notched the sides of the two joined cabinets to accommodate the ledge.
underside after install.

The provided template shows the measurements for the rim of sink. We basically used that measurement to provide a ledge or harness for the rim to sit on and recessed it so it would be flush.

DH attached blocking along the entire back side of the cabinet and routed just enough out of the sides of the cabinets and the blocking, so the sink rim can sit on it and be flush.
I added several layers of weldbond to all of the cut surfaces (let dry between coats) to seal. I also siliconed all seams and drill holes in the sink cabinets. I did this to prevent moisture absorption.

The clips that come with the Stages are attached to the underside of your counter and push up on the lip. He wasn't able to use all of them because of access and space issues. We have a wood counter. Our sink was initially installed in marble and they refused to use the clips.

Kohler Karbon - be sure to have your brother take a good look at the hardware and install instructions. DH had no room for his tool. Had we placed the holes correctly we would have avoided lots of frustration.

Hope this helps!

So glad you resolved it! I'm sure you're happy with your decision since you gave it due diligence. What was it that tipped the scale?

I did detail critical parts of my install for scrappy in the last post you've listed. I can try to answer specifics for you. I saw your thread the other day about the cabs but haven't had a chance to answer. I have a 36" sink base and 24" drawer bank that it's installed over. My cabs are Ikea frameless. Let me know what info you need.

(Edited once I checked the listed links).

Ok... thanks. I'll send this list over to my contractor. I figured the variety of the installs would help give him an idea. If he has any further questions, I'll ask. (btw, my contractor is VERY patient with me... he's my brother ;-) )

what made the difference? As I said, I've looked at this sink on and off for years. Friday's discovery that my drainboard wasn't going to work made me rethink using my current sink... and then the waffling over the weekend. The tipping point was both my husband deciding he'd like to reuse the sink in the mudroom to help with his brewing hobby and my mom, who knows how frugal I can be sometimes, watching the video and saying "go for it." Even all grown up with 4 kids of my own, momma's approval means something. :-)

That's interesting. My DH did the same to me as I struggled with the decision. He told me life is too short and to just do it. I ordered them that same day and they ended up the best parts of my remodel. If my mom were still with us, she would have been my sounding board too!

I'll look around this morning to see if I have anymore install info.

Props to bbtrix for her generous help and support to all who ask. If there were a GW hall of fame, I'd nominate her :)

Ditto -- I'm excited to hear what my brother thinks -- I know he was concerned about my "well, even though kohler says it doesn't fit, I KNOW it does... I've seen examples." bbtrix -- above and beyond and I thank you!

Your welcome! I know what I went through to understand how to do this. I used two of the threads you posted above and some from Ikeafans and had some help from duffy who disappeared from GW during her install. Pictures are worth a thousand words. Please don't hesitate to ask more Qs!
