I saw some milkweed plants for sale at North Haven Gardens (on I-75 a few miles north of downtown Dallas). As far as I know, there is only that one location for that nursery. The other nurseries that are chain stores, such as Calloways, which might have one closer to you -- I don't recall seeing the plants there.

Are you excluding Asclepias tuberosa (butterfly weed)? I understand some avoid this because it doesn't contain the protective toxins found in others, though the monarchs still love it. This should be available at a number of places in Dallas; we got our most recent one at Bruce Miller Nursery.

A. incarnata (swamp milkweed) is the only other one I've looked for and found locally... but don't remember where. There's a good list of places to check with on savedallaswater.com under Nurseries Specializing in Native and Adapted Drought-Tolerant Plants, which includes the two mentioned already.

We got Asclepius currasivica from north haven. Husband went, so I have to venture there myself next week. Only plant I need in my garden is a something 3-4 ft tall. Driving me nuts.

I hate to hear that phoenix. My tuberosa looks better this year than last, so fingers crossed.

Our a. tuberosas usually make it a few years before some cold/wet/clay combo on the north side of Dallas does them in. Not sure, but seems more common in years the monarch cats have denuded the plant a couple times over the season - which I imagine could leave the roots in a weaker state. Thinking about trying the a. tuberosa for clay from Prairie Nursery. Does anyone have any experience with this one?

The scraggly a. tuberosa we bought late last year has leafed out and bloomed as a. currasivica, so now have a chance to see how that does in 8a clay. Have never tried this tropical seeing them tagged reliably hardy only to zone 9 and guessing they also take a few years to really get going.

Not much a. asperula here, but plenty of native honeyvine milkweed (cynanchum laeve) the cats resort to only after the tuberosa is depleted. Nice in the wild, but a beast to control in or eliminate from a yard.
