Not a clue she sure is pretty though. I see I'm not only one that has a lost label/no I.D. Shelf. I swear someone goes into the GH and takes my tags at night.

The photo is pale...I think this could be H. Susan.

Hello all you fellow flower fanatics from the good old Republic of South Africa. Geez, I'm pretty amazed at how nice and friendly the majority of you are and I love the way you share your thoughts and findings! I just happened across this site after searching every possible avenue available in South Africa on how to grow Amaryllis from seed, to no avail as all the answers I got insisted it could only be done with bulbs! My Mother-In-Law gave me a large envelope filled with seeds and "challenged" me to get them to grow - she has never managed to grow from seed before and I was totally clueless.......Until I discovered this amazing site! I had no idea that there were so many different varieties and colours and it would seem to me that the average South African is just as blissfully unaware. I have a bull terrier/blood hound like "personality" - once I get a whiff of something or am told that it is impossible, I will search for answers. Impossible, can't be done, no, never, etc are words that do not exist in my vocabulary. I research every related site, no matter how remote it may seem until I find an answer. I only wish that we had as many different varieties as you lucky people have - I think it could very easily become my new Passion! Well, it is very nice to chat/meet all of you and I certainly know where to go in future with questions. I do have green fingers and most anything that I plant grows like crazy. Amaryllis is in a totally different league from my usual though, so I do hope and pray that I will also have some pix to post on this site showing lots of little germinating shoots in a couple of months time. God Bless you all, have a super rest of the week and I hope to be communicating with you in the near future! Warm Regards, lorna.jamisonnash2@gmail.com

    Welcome Lorna!

I think that your mother-in-law will be amazed when she sees your seedlings!

Welcome Lorna!! One of the biggest Hippeastrum growers in the world is in South Africa (Hadeco), so you'd think more people would know more about Amaryllis. Welcome to the group. If you make sure your messaging in enabled, I'm sure you'll get plenty of offers for seeds.

Hello to you awesome people - Donna & Kristi & all the others who so kindly welcomed me to the group. Unfortunately my Mother-in Law also lives in South Africa and her giving me seeds was rather unexpected. However, my 3 sisters-in-law are all avid gardeners and vie for attention with their crop of amaryllis every year. I'm certain that they would love to receive offers of seeds, as would I, and I would ensure that we all return the favour. I cannot foresee any problems with us sending seeds to the US and vice versa - to be on the safe side one could always put the seeds in a bubble-protected envelope and label it as bric-a-brac or knick-knacks/haberdashery - our postal service won't understand any of those words so it won't make a difference! It's really super of you to make contact with me so quickly - I am simply thrilled to bits!!! Regards, Lorna

Thanks Donna...I saw that as well. I don't keep track of emails for everyone on the forum (just a few) , and unless she puts it in every message, I may not go back and find it! Just easier to click someone's name and contact them if they aren't on my email list. Also, I don't think it's a great idea to post emails on this forum. I already get enough spam!

    Welcome to the forum Lorna!
There is no limit to the knowledge and goodwill on this forum, it is amazing and very wonderful.
Do you have and grow Clivias? They are of the same family, Amaryllidaceae.
