Wow, that's a lot of garlic! I find the hardnecks do better here, too, though there are some really interesting softneck varieties, and they do keep better. Since I always remove the scapes (they do get used in the kitchen), I've never had any garlic bulbils to start - have too little space to spare. That must be rewarding.

I was on the cheap side and can't afford to buy the expensive hardneck as "seeds". The large cloved porcelain garlic is really expensive to grow since there are very few cloves in each bulb. So I had to get some store grade softneck and the tiny bulbils. The bulbils are really cheap to grow, but just more work.

Total I planted about 500 cloves and more than 1,000 bulbils.... Hope we have enough garlic for the whole year and save some for planting next year.
