Do you have windows?

Yes I have windows, but im in a basement suite with low light thus the reason I had to get lights. The windows are facing north and are under a deck so even less light comes in. I actually did try them for a bit on the windows and had zero growth and response.

I too grow many of my orchids inside in a plantroom and instead of the lights being hung above the plants I attached the bars to the wall horizontally. I make sure to turn the plants weekly so all sides get enough light. Been doing this for over 20 years with all my plants (ferns, orchids, carnivorous, etc)

I did this when I lived in NY. When Phals are spiking the spikes will head toward the light. You cannot do this under your light set up. You can grow the plant under grow lights, but you cannot get the flowers unless you keep lowering the plant.

The easiest way is to buy octopus, floor lamps. Put the plants on a table and point the lights toward the spikes. With an octopus lamp, you can move the lights up, higher and higher. I used simple, cheap CFL bulbs.

Here's a picture of what I did.

You can see Phal spikes reaching for the lights as well as Dendrobium spikes. This room did not have much natural light but was my 'warm room.' I was able to flower any of those plants which flowered in the winter under those lights. The octopus lamps are inexpensive, I bought mine in Target and Home Depot. Put CFL bulbs in and they will flower those plants.

Thanks for the suggestions. Ive moved them with a CFL light that hangs much higher now. Temp solution but it works.
