frozen desert rose

i have a desert rose that got partily frozen and then started to mold. i have cut the top off. the roots looked ok so i put it back in the pot and put it in full sun. the top has turned black and sunk in. should i keep trying to regrow it. anybody else have this happen? please send some advice.
