Two different wood floors

We would like to replace the carpet in one room with wide plank wood floor but it would be right next to a hall with original 45 year old oak floors. The planks would be running in opposite directions. I am concerned about having two different types of wood in the door way right next to each other?

Can the planks run in the same direction? I'd try to match up the flooring so it looks as consistent as possible since you have wood. Perhaps you can refinish the old flooring at the same time to get a more cohesive look.

Refinishing the older floors while finishing the new floors would give a much more uniform look.

as i recently shared with someone else with a similar problem consider painting in a separator if the planks can not be run in the same direction..there are many different ways this can be done...also installing a detail floor tile inbetween could be a great point of interest that is unexpected and adds texture/color...the painted inlaid wood wood look is gorgeous as well for a divider...
