Need recs for kitchen layout

Hello,

This is my 1st post. I really appreciate the help I've received from stalking the forums.

I'm requesting some insight on my proposed kitchen remodel. I will be getting new cabinets, appliances, lighting, and would like to change the layout.

We are a family of 5 with kids age 21, 14 and 13 (currently my dish washers).

Important to note:

  • I currently do not have a gas line in my kitchen.
  • The space above my kitchen is bedrooms.
  • I have a crawl space beneath the house.
  • Windows, doorways and walls can not be changed.
  • Garage is on other side of north wall of my kitchen (reading through forums informed me that I could not vent to my garage, lol!)

I am changing the cabinets because they are in bad need of repair. I am getting new appliances because the brand purchased about 8 years ago was a HUGE disappointment (still in need of therapy for this)! Changing the layout because there is an 88" "great divide between my slide in range and the main sink and I'm tired of yelling "CLEAR" every time I want to dump a pot of pasta water.

I cook from scratch, frequently with one of my DD's helping with the chopping of onions, garlic, bell pepper, etc. I do not bake a lot at the request of my DH, lol!

I really want my induction cooktop! I've been cooking on a NuWave hob my daughter had at college and love induction cooking.

I wonder in the 45" Kohler stages sink is overkill for prep since I would now have a 2nd sink for cleaning. Should I go with the 33" instead? I've only done clean up in a double basin sink my entire life, so I'm still on the fence about the single basin clean up sink.

I did my best to draw the current and proposed layouts to scale, but it's off. Hopefully you'll get the picture.

Thanks for any help!

First, we need to get your kitchen off the ceiling. ;)

    How'd you do that!

I saved each pic, which puts it in Windows photo gallery, where I rotate it before posting. Then I delete.

I made a few assumptions that you can move your garage door and that there's a wall on the other side of the kitchen table. This sounds like it might be beyond the scope of what you want to do, but I enjoyed moving things around a bit...

Benjesbride, the mudroom is more like a hallway to the laundry room with hooks for personal items. The line showing 317" length of the kitchen is probably confusing, it should show a hallway. I have no problem with the basic footprint of the kitchen (save the 88" galley between the range and sink). Kids are aways going to the pantry for a snack while I'm cooking. The placement of the powder room is fine. Actually, the kitchen nook is 16' x 7', and yes there is a wall of bay'ish type windows on the other side of the kitchen table.

So does that mean you aren't willing to expand into where the kitchen table is? Are you willing to expand at all? I ask because you really don't have enough counter space.

Well, maybe you don't on the prep/cook side and maybe you do. 36" is the recommended minimum for prep area between prep sink and cooktop. However, that might not be necessary with a Stages 45 since that sink is designed for you to do a bunch of prepping right in the sink. So, on that side, I dunno anymore with that type of sink. Hopefully someone will pop in more familiar with the Stages to give their input.

I think you definitely lack enough counter on the clean-up sink side of the kitchen. I think I would put the one oven undercounter on the short L to the left of the cooktop and the other oven undercounter where you show them now. More counter trumps a DO stack for me.

Expanding as presented by benjesbride would block hallway to laundry and stairs to upper level. I would also lose a kitchen seating area. However, I like moving entry closer to pantry. Ovens under counter is a good thought. I had not thought about that. Thank you both for your input.

How are you planning on venting the cooktop in the peninsula? Downdraft vents have not been very popular on this forum. Though I can understand your desire to put your primary prep facing out into the family room rather than towards a wall.

Bosch downdraft. It should be better than over the range microwave that blows cooking by product over my cabinets.
