We ordered a 30# KitchenAid gas downdraft cook top to be installed in an existing island with granite counter top. Turns out the cutout from the previous gas downdraft cook top is ever-so-slightly too large for a proper install. The new cook top has a glass top with a metal flange underneath that is set in from the glass edge about a quarter inch on all sides. The cook top fits in the existing cut out, but it rests on the glass edge rather than the metal flange. Looking at other customer comments online, it seems that the glass can CRACK if installed this way. Hoping to find a way to build out the granite to make the cutout slightly smaller so that the cook top can be installed with the metal flange resting on the granite instead of the glass edge resting on the granite. Any ideas, suggestions, material details, etc. would be greatly appreciated!!!
