sumac? (the tall plant)

Does look like a sumac of some sort - especially the way there are multiple "trunks" coming up. A quick google search for your local varieties will confirm (or not) quickly. In VT we had staghorn sumac, which was very fuzzy when young, so easy to identify.

The wild carrot family includes poison hemlock and cow parsnip - things you certainly don't want to eat! - so no noshing. I actually wildcraft a lot of herbs, and forage for wild food, but I avoid that family because there are too many look-alikes that are really bad for us. Even the edible varieties aren't yummy enough to put much energy into, so no big lose.

Oh - some varieties of both sumac and wild carrot can make you itch like poison ivy. Another good reason to identify them both.

Thanks. If it's sumac I think I'll just get rid of it. My fear was that it was something unique and desirable. Didn't want to regret removing it.

We really can't be certain from this picture - you will need to pull up some pictures of local sumac varieties and compare yourself to be sure. If you don't have anything else going in that spot you may want to leave it...sumacs are actually very attractive native plants that form groves a bit like banyan trees. They also have an interesting structure that makes them appealing in winter when form is so important.
