If the damaged branches are leafing out, you can try supporting them with bamboo or other canes to avoid further damage. They may heal themselves, but since we have no idea what sort of damage is involved, it's very difficult to say. Pruning below the damaged portion should stimulate new growth, so, all in all, that's probably the better option.

just prune them out ... about 3 inches from the ground ...

they will not heal .. like a broken bone ... there will never be any interior structure ...

all the juices flow throw the cambian.. which is a vascular system just below the bark .. and though that might remain intact ... without the interior structure ... sooner or later.. you will lose the battle ...

these types of shrubs are regenerated thru rejuvenation pruning... which is basically removing one third of the plant.. every year or so ... google the term .. and then just understand.. winter made the choice of which branches to take out ...

and.. BTW ... presuming no insult to the root mass ... the plant will easily fill in.. the empty space. ... within a month or two .. enough so.. anyway.. that you will be forgetting about the void ...

just get rid of broken or injured limbs ... IMHO
