Very lovely! I've also had individual tubers grow, die down, & grow again for many years. Love them. The flower reminds me of the old variety, Kaiser Wilhelm, from the 1890's.

It very well might be I got this one from my gradmother as a cutting she had the original as far back as I can remember ,brought it with me to florida . Kept it in the den atop a large aquarium where it flowered almost continuously

The move outdoors has been tough but if things will stop eating it just might make it ?? They tend to have such deep rich colors . gary.

Remembering another reason thay are not garden plants It rained yesterday and shattered the flowers lol Since the flowers point up see no way to avoid that save move back into the house lol gary

So true! I often place them outside after blooming because I need the indoor space. If I remove the crown leaving a few leaves, a plant generally will sprout new crowns and bloom again. But this time, it has to take its chances outside. I do try to place the plant in a sheltered spot when the buds are ready to open because as you said they have no defense against the rain. This is probably why the original species were all slipper shaped.
