Is this to be expected?

A little background - we signed our contract with our builder in mid-January of this year. This is our first time working with a home builder. At the time, he only had two lots available in our neighborhood. I would say he's somewhere between a custom and production builder. Progress has been VERY slow. We're building a single story with a basement, partially finished in the Southeast. The main floor will have about 2800 sq ft.

We met with our builder back at the end of March who reassured us that we should have the foundation finished and framing started by mid-April and that he wouldn't work on other lots in our neighborhood until we were caught up. So far, it's May and we still don't have our foundation finished.. footings, walls, and waterproofing are complete for the basement, but that's about it.

He has also since bought three other lots in our neighborhood that we know of. Those lots have been cleared, and prepared for footings in the past two weeks (during our days that the weather cooperated.)

The past few sunny days, we've been by to visit and see what progress has been made. Our lot has remained fairly stagnant - still not ready for pouring the slab - while the other lots have shown progress.

My question - we are over 3 months into what was supposed to be a 6 month build. Our house sold back in February, so we are paying for storage and staying with family. Am I overreacting by being upset that we're so far behind? Or that our builder is working on other lots that signed contracts FAR after we did? Am I being petty?

And - should we say something to our realtor/builder about our concerns? I know with him being a "production" builder some multi-tasking can be expected.. but we're also paying a premium to have a bit more "custom" attention, if that makes sense?

We're trying to be patient with the process, but there's a reason we didn't go full custom. It's just hard to rationalize being so far behind in the process compared to many other builds in our area. Thanks for any advice or suggestions you can offer. This site and hearing about everyone else's build has saved my sanity on those frustrating days, many times over. :)
