I'm sorry for you loss again, James! Your DSP must be a monster! DSP is one that I have never had a lot of luck with. I rotted one, and my current DSP is alive, but almost leafless. I think I must not be doing something right by it. Does yours behave like an evergreen, or go dormant?

Ohhhh, how about 9 years old and in a 25 gallon pot.

Ok so let's break this down...

• Celadine is your oldest and we know that was 40. so its less than 40.
• In order to blow over even with roots into the ground it would have to be a pretty tall dwarf so its up there in age.
• The container is made out of heavy ceramic so it would have to be a narrow base in order for the surface area of the tree to overcome the embedded roots plus the weight of soil and container and some strong gusts in the direction of the lean.
• Roots the size of a carrot.
• 25% of the tree fits into a diet coke pallet.
• My experience is saying a DSP grows vertically about 4-5 inches a year. However these branches and the leaf node distances seem much larger than I would expect.
• It would be hard to bring home a big ceramic container in a GL or an M Class ;) and my own experience with very large containers is it takes a very strong wind usually associated with a microburst and a tree over 6 feet tall to snap roots and tilt 90lbs of soil, container and tree. Its the wrong season for Santa Annas and I don't remember any reports of severe weather in the LA area.
• DSP's hit the market around early 2000's? So I say James had one before.
• Divided by the # of wing beats per minute of Jandey's African Swallow while in a 30 degree dive and a 14 knot headwind...near sea level with a barometric pressure of 985 millibars....

All of this tells me it's around 14 years old and the container is 10 gallons and the tree is probably 5 feet above the container soil line. All fun and games. James thanks for the contest

Running to an appointment but wanted to answer Rox question. The smelliest I have, hmmmmm, there are 4 equally smelly aka strong scent. 1. Mela Pa Bowman 2 Celadine 3. Hong Kong 4. Bonnie Fox. on a scale of 1 to 10 for strength of scent they all rate about 9 or 10, just coloration is different. I use to have a huge Stenopetala, it was 8 yrs old and gave it to George in Simi, that was probably the strongest of scents.

I have all the others, as you have read, it is about the scent and flower to me and Bonnie Fox has been on a list for years if you think it would be a happy bloomer in my area.

I don't need DSP cuttings because I have 3 plants but I would love to have a Temptation. I'm going to guess 30 years and 25 gallons. Some of the other cuttings would be great also and I'm willing to pay if you have extra.

My guess is 14 years old and a 15 gallon pot.

OMG... Sorry been super busy, 1st chance I've had to check on the game. Ok well "Chuy" was the first to guess exactly the age and pot size, 11yrs and 20gal, had to go back to my order history for MPG to see the purchase date June 2004. The DSP was horribly pot bound thus the huge root escaping the pot. "Chuy" I'll give you couple of DSP and other cuttings I am going to harvest (will label them) havent cut them yet. If you want I can ask Bill if I can drop them off with him, or Bill you and I can meet, or I can mail them to you? Let me know?
