Thank you I am well aware of that. I was hoping to look for other people in the Arizona/Phoenix area that I could exchange info with which is why I looked in the AZ forum.

Harold will be along one of these days. He's in Glendale and his wife grows some very nice adeniums. I've killed every single one I've bought - and there have been a few. Death by water methinks!

Hi Joey - I grow them and use cactus mix, it works well for me.

I discovered Adeniums at a DBG show last year and bought a few small ones that I keep in pots. I also use cactus mix but I also make sure the pots have drainage holes in the bottom to let excess water run out. Over this past winter, I left them outside to see what would happen. They survived although they lost all their leaves and a couple had damage to their very top ends (where most of the leaves normally sprout) - these two did not flower as that is also where the flowers normally come out from. However the largest and the smallest ones I had both flowered and the flowers were in bloom for a long time (until they were all blown away by the recent high winds).

I love and grow adeniums too. The link that Michael gave is a classic and great reference for anyone interesting in keeping adeniums happy. Good one, Michael! I give mine insane full hot sun all year and water when dry spring, summer and autumn and then NO WATER at all when they shed their leaves in winter. They're best brought indoors if we have a frost/freeze warning in winter too. Great plants that are worth a bit of trouble to keep year to year. Keep us posted on yours, happy gardening!

Good advice on no water durng the winter. Ann brings hers onto our south facing paito when we begin to get cold nights and they stay there all winter with no water. We have roller shades on the patio that go down at dusk so that it stays about 50 degrees even on the coldest nights. However, one we had to leave outside because we didn't know that the roots had gone out of the pot and into the ground, and it got zapped but is now putting out leaves in about the middle of the stalk. So it did get whatever rain we got during that time and apparently has survived but will take a while to get going again. Not recommended.
