Do i have to remove the flower that is dying? The soil of the pot keeps a lot of moisture. Can I repot it and what type of soil to use? Can I use bark for orchids? Thanks
If the flower is no longer attractive, you may as well remove it. I use cactus/palm soil for all of my bromelieads (and I have lost count of how many I have, since they are spreading so much), but I would not use orchid bark. They need soil that drains well, but if you used bark, you would have to water them more often. They grow in the ground in Costa Rica (photo from La Paz Waterfall Park, March 2015):
And where they grow on trees, there is a lot of rain. We went during the dry season and it still rained almost every day.
