Pruning Endless Summer

Should I trim my Endless Summer back. I have long sticks that have a bit of green fluff about a foot or more down and then further down I have good big leaves. Should I trim off the "sticks" with no leaves? They are alive but don't look like they are going to do very much.

You could wait until the end of May if located in cold zones; if they do not leaf out by the end of May then they will not.

I have had some of these dried out looking sticks leaf out late and sometimes bloom. The ones that are difficult to decide are the ones who leaf out partly at the bottom and then either do not leaf out on the top or leaf out the top late in the season. Hydrangea flower buds are located near the end of the stems so wait or guess carefully.

Sometimes even stems that are producing green near the tops are too freeze damaged to put out a full stem with leaves. But bud-survival of 1 foot or higher in colder zones I'd call a success.
