Thunder rumbling here. I need to harvest sugar snaps also but know i'll sink if I dare step in the garden.

Looks like another do nothing day here.

Had some rain here. Not much else so far.

Woke to a thunder storm, but it was "normal" rain. The new wulfleton river formed by the rains earlier this week in the back yard is flowing strong but isn't hurting anything thing, so as Scarlett would say "I'll think about that tomorrow" I'm guessing there were some vole tunnels in the vicinity because the dog and cat have teamed up to catch, kill, and bury about 6 voles in the past 3 days (the cat catches them, the dog kills them and buries them in the mud). We have ended up with about 10 inches since Wednesday. I was able to trudge out the the garden (so much mud!). Some kohlrabi had split, but still looks usable. Tomatoes are hanging in there...some of the plants don't have as many flowers as I would expect by this time of year, but they are standing at least! I picked some lettuce and will have a little garden salad before heading to Norman to see my mom.
I'm hoping that today is mellow weather wise for everyone, and I hope everyone has a great Mother's Day.

We had a rowdy little storm here this morning. It dropped another inch of rain and snapped a tree in the front yard in half about 5' above the ground. The winds gusted in the mid to upper 40s. The corn is lying on the ground again. I stood up all the stalks that I could during a break in the rain because the corn is tasseling and silking and isn't going to pollinate properly if all the plants are flattened on the ground.

I did get snap peas picked after the early morning storm moved on, but when I was almost finished doing that, thunder started up. By the time I made it from the garden to the house, we had lightning, wind and rain.

While Tim was driving home from DFW Airport this morning, on a route that brings him through Lewisville and Denton, NWS-Fort Worth issued a Tornado Warning for SE Denton County. When I called him, he was driving in Denton and didn't know about the Tornado Warning but said the clouds were low and dark and he was in a very intense severe thunderstorm. I think he already was further north than the tornado-warned area, but only just barely.

I have some fruit set on most tomato plants, but there's a ton of flowers that do not seem to be setting fruit. That's got to be related to the weather because we are in the right temperature range for fruitset.

It is going to be another long day here. Our forecast doesn't just give us a 90% chance of rain----it specifies Heavy Rain. I'm hoping that is a reference to the heavy rain from this morning, but I am afraid it probably means heavy rain later in the day too.

I should be happy because I got to spend 15 minutes in the garden (walking in the canals, which used to be pathways between raised beds) but it wasn't long enough and there wasn't any sunshine. This weather is getting depressing.

We too had rain but no flooding this time. Rain ended by 9 AM so we trekked off to check out the new Sam's in Moore. Paid a visit to my mother. Her gift was more essential oils for my Dad's current attack of shingles. Yuck! We've rested some and as the clouds are gathering - we're going to be brave and take off the frost covers of the Pepper and Tomato Beds. Those maters have GOT to get caged. They're just sprawling all over the place and I fear broken limbs worse than hail at this point. I'll be going back to work this week so it's gotta get done.

Another inch of rain midmorning for a grand total of just over 5 inches since it started last Tuesday evening. I picked the sugar snaps this morning and was just ready to start on the strawberries when the rain started. I was hoping for sun to dry them a bit, but it's been mostly cloudy all day.

We are sunny and the wildlife is relieved. So are we. It doesn't look like we'll be bothered in any grand way until later next week, maybe. Enjoying it. I hope everyone has a chance to breath before the next storms roll through. We haven't suffered anywhere like others. I can only imagine how weary it's been. Blessings to all.

We went through a pretty good shower when we drove to Shawnee this morning, but rain stopped by 9:00. The North Canadian River had overflowed into nearby pastures, but that's not terribly abnormal for heavy rains. Lots of creeks have overflowed their banks and a road through Seminole's Twin Lakes was covered. Seminole's two main parks are under water. A dirt road about 3 miles from our rural school is closed due to 2 large chasms caused by flooding. Our half mile of dirt road is looking pretty rocky and thin at the edges (especially by a couple of culverts) and the water is up in our little lake that's a block from our house. It's a Corps of Engineer Lake built to alleviate our floodplain area that feeds into Wewoka Lake. The ground at home is squishy, but most of the ponding has gone down in the yard and the sun is out. However, forecast for tonight is heavy thunderstorms and possible tornado watch for Seminole County. <Heavy Sigh and in my best middle school student whiny voice, "I don't want any more!">

I'll make this quick because the severe thunderstorms keep knocking out our power and wireless internet service. Thunderstorms have trained over us all day and continue to do so. We are over 5" of rain now just for today, falling on heavily saturated ground. Flash flooding everywhere in low-lying areas and roadways, but as far as I know, no high-water rescues like they're having down around Krum TX, which are being shown on The Weather Channel. We drove over the Red River I-35 Bridge a couple of hours ago and the river looks scary.

Stay safe and dry y'all, and we'll try to do the same here. Our May rainfall so far now is about 12" at our house but probably significantly less at our Mesonet station since a lot of today's rain was too far east and missed the station at Burneyville. Our house is high and dry but we're surrounded by a lake of rainfall now. There's no way it will come into our house, but there is a possibility that flooded low-water crossings may keep us stuck at home for a day or two.

Everything that can overflow already has done so and I have no idea where any more water is gonna go. Wish we could send it to California.

All is well here, other than sloshing through the yard. My 'maters are standing tall. I was afraid all the rain was going to beat them to death. The raised beds are actually happy. I need to get the blackberries trellised. Not sure when with rain still going on. I had 2 Rose of Sharons heave up out of the ground. Weird. They're in their second or third year in that spot. I put some t-posts in the ground and tied them to that. Hope they survive. I've been told you can't kill them, but I'm a rebel, you know. Ha! Im still trying to figure out how to post a photo on here. I was able to before the change. Can't seem to find the info on the site.

This is a report for the entire week. We've had a lot of rain ( the weather station went out after a wind storm and came back on about 24 hours later, after 3 storms it missed counting, so I'm guessing we had about 8 inches over the week. We had a power outage for a couple of hours after the wind storm. We drove around this afternoon and all the farm ponds we saw were full. The lakes didn't start coming up until Thursday, but they are all increased in depth by 3 or 4 feet, I believe. I not going to complain about the amount of rain since it's doing so much for the lakes. I didn't plant much of a garden this spring because we couldn't water at all, but what we do have doesn't show any signs of distress. I'm hoping, come July and August, this will make a difference in our watering stage so that we be allowed to water a little during the hottest weather.

We had a nice calm day here in Sw OKC. We had a little shower this morning but not enough to measure, sunshine most of the day. We missed the late afternoon storms cold front came through and we were fine. You Guys down south and the southeastern part of the state looks like you caught it all, it just kept training over the same area and was moving so slow. That's what happened to us Wednesday night. We should all have a few days to dry out before more storms come in next week. I guess I will spend the next two days cleaning up the flood trash and filling up what washouts I can.

Like a lot of others, I was tickled to finally see the sun. Then I went to the garden. I missed the hail, the major wind damage, but not the affects of absolute saturation.

When the sun came out, it sent a lot of my plants into a tailspin. Tomatoes, peppers and broccoli. Guess the next few days will tell the story?

Drainage has never been an issue until this last week. Quite the opposite. Usually, I'm looking at watering within a few days of a good rain.

I grabbed a shovel and started digging a few 'prospect' holes, just to see if I could pull some water away from the plants. On about the 5th spot, I hit a gopher run. It looked like I had hit a water main. After bailing around 100 gal, it finally quit gushing.

With the way the plants are wilting, I'll be surprised if my efforts pay off. Guess we'll see?

getting another round of thunderstorms down here. been getting waves of them all day.

The rain wreaked havoc on my peonies :( But I was able to salvage enough flowers for a few bouquets. My poor salvias though, they are all droopy. We have a couple of days before the next round...I hope everything gets a chance to dry out a little!

We are great here but My family in Denton was close. All are safe but I guess a tornado took the roof off of the building next to where my oldest son was working. He was so nonchalant about it I did not know it was a tornado until I talked to my mother.

Another storm rolling in. I seen 2" in the rain gauge from today and it's raining again.

I think we ended up with 6.1" yesterday, bringing our May total so far to about 13" and our year-to-date total in the upper 20s. The flash flooding damage is massive, and we cancelled our Mother's Day cookout/dinner as Tim and Chris were out with the fire department working motor vehicle accidents, reporting flooded roads so our county commissioner could send out guys to barricade those roads, and participating in a high water rescue in which one of our firefighters(so proud of him!) came across a person about to be swept off a bridge and into a creek that would feeds into the Red River fairly close by and rescued her from the vehicle, and the rest of our firefighters rushed there to help him and to try to save the car from washing away (and also to try to prevent other people from driving into that flooded roadway). Other than that, nothing at all happened here in our neighborhood. I understand Hwy 77 in our part of the county may be iffy in a few places today, but there was a lot more damage in town including damaged or destroyed roadways, as far as I know, than out here in the sticks. We'll have our cookout and dinner this evening in perfect sunny weather and without rain falling on our heads and we'll be able to enjoy it more than we would have yesterday when the skies were black and rain wouldn't stop falling.

The Red River is about to crest, or already has crested, at a little over 30'. For perspective, that means any equipment or cattle in the river bottom areas had to be moved to an elevation 6' higher in order to stay out of the flood waters. We saw farmers/ranchers with bottom land areas cutting and baling and moving their hay to higher ground last week, and it is a good thing, because some of those same bottom lands are under several feet of water now. I'm glad they were able to get that first cutting of hay harvested so they wouldn't lose it to the flood. The Red River is making folks nervous, and I am sure all of you likely have flooding rivers nearby that are making folks feel the same way. It has flooded much worse here before and still is 10-11 feet lower than its record flood stage reached in 1987 at the I35 bridge between Cooke County TX and Love County OK. I am worried about the Kingston area Marshall County as they usually get hit hard by all this water flowing downstream to Lake Texoma.

I don't know how the plants in my garden are going to handle all this moisture. The couple of days of drying out that we have before the next rain event will help a little, but not enough. We'll know soon if the raised beds have saved the plants that are growing in them. I know everything is going to have all kinds of fungal diseases. I sprayed with Daconil a couple of weeks ago, but rain washes it off, so it isn't really helpful if it is raining every day, and that's doubly true if you're getting 3-6" a day.

Some years are just this way and we just have to wait it out and see how our plants respond. It is hard to be unhappy about rain when we generally are in desperate need of more of it. I'm still not happy about the fact that it is coming in such ridiculous amounts. The weeks that typically bring our rainiest weather still lie ahead of us, and that's food for thought, isn't it?
