Limed and sowed clover but no rain

I waited and waited until the time just before a heavy rain was predicted to overseed my lawn with clover. I mixed the seed with granulated lime for ease of spreading and to kill two birds with one stone (the lawn is rife with onion grass and our soil is on the acidic side.) But the rain never came! The scalped lawn has been baking all week and the only sig of rain in sight are some measly thunderstorms. The only areas I have watered at all are a few that I leveled with top soil. What can I expect to happen? Was it a waste? U;n in Westchester County, New York, where the lack of rain has put us in forest fire watch.
